What are the duties of a medicine cat: The duties of a medicine cat are many and varied; a medicine cat must learn the known uses of herbs for healing injuries and illnesses, and also must have an innovative mind so that they may come up with new ways to treat illnesses and injuries. They must also have compassion-- the warrior code must be obeyed, but a medicine cat must have the proper balance of compassion and clan loyalty to understand that no cat deserves to die just because of clan rivalries.
A medicine cat must be quick on their paws so that they can quickly and effectively treat cats in the event of an emergency; they must also have the patience and desire to be a mentor, as a medicine cat, unlike a Warrior, must take an apprentice.
It is also the duty of a medicine cat to communicate with and understand their warrior ancestors. Medicine cats may receive signs and omens from Starclan, so they must have a strong sense of faith in order to understand such things.

What you would do with this position: Clearkit never thought much about being a warrior-- in his eyes, he always wondered if he was cut out for fighting. He doesn't like the thought of ripping out a cat's fur, digging his claws into their skin, sinking his teeth in... All of this would be in defense of his clan, he understands, but he isn't sure he wants that.
It isn't until he visits the medicine cat's den for a thorn in his paw that he realizes there's more than one way to show his loyalty to his clan. He can use his non-warrior-like observation habits to be good at something else. He can show loyalty to his clan by being the medicine cat he can be, and looking after the warriors and apprentices who fight bravely, the queens, who give birth to the future warriors of Riverclan, the elders, who have spent their lives in service to the clan... All the while, treading the same steps as many cats before him, walking with Starclan and with their wisdom.
