Herb Shortage! (Closed)

Dewstar's breaths were getting more and more constricted with each step she took. Shake it off. Shake it off, Dewstar. She repeated this in her mind again and again, but it didn't help. It's just a kittencough. Sadly, that was not the case. All of the extra training with her many apprentices meant she had no rest and was constantly in the freezing cold forest, and she didn't eat much, either. The Clan first, as always. Unfortunately, she was a terrible hunter and was returning from camp empty-pawed- besides the bad case of sniffles she picked up. Too bad it was actually greencough. She stumbled through the gorse tunnel and over to the medicine cats' den, where she promptly fell over and gave several raspy coughs.

"Dewstar, is that you?" Swiftnose recognized her scent, but he also recognized the terrible scent of sickness that wafted in from the outside. When he looked out and saw her fall, he rushed out immediately. "Nightpaw! Nightpaw, get out here now! Bring catmint and coltsfoot!"

The leader was not the only cat to fall ill. Inside were more sick cats, including Sunface.

IC: Nightpaw jolted up from his nap as Swiftnose snapped his name. His legs took his weight perfectly as he rushed over to the herb storage. He shifted through it, looking for the named herbs. That was weird, there was nothing. He searched once more, then twice, not finding anything to help. He started panic, his breath getting faster. He rushed over to Dewstar and Swiftnose, saying to his mentor "There are none! Nor anything that can help right now. Except poppy seeds." he mewed, quickly realizing that there was nothing to help Dewstar. "Do you want me to go look for some? I can try to run as fast as I can" he mewed, wondering where he would find some at this time in the season.

He looked at his taller apprentice with panic in his eyes, an emotion very strange to him. He shook his head to clear it and herded Dewstar to an empty nest inside. "Ah... the only place that could still have herbs is the Twolegplace; the rest is buried under snow. It's too dangerous for you to go alone and we can't leave the camp without enough warriors to keep it protected. I'll go with you, and hopefully we won't run into trouble." He looked at his leader with fear and worry in his eyes, then began hurriedly padding from the den.

"Okay, are we going to run? Or at least some of the way. Because I can" he mewed, hoping that Swiftnose trusted him and his legs enough to handle the journey. He hurriedly padded after his mentor, keeping pace with him. His big build was meant for this hard work, though he wasn't doing that anymore.

"The others have been treated, but she has not. We're going to have to run if we want to prevent it from developing into blackcough." He'd heard the news about Nightpaw's legs. It was great news; he was overjoyed. But now was the time to test them out. He had faith in Nightpaw and in his warrior ancestors who no doubt played a part in his recovery. When they had scaled the ravine he broke into a run instantly, silently appreciating the chance to stretch his long legs.

~Time Skip~

Instead of skirting around old SkyClan territory, they cut right through it. They had the fortune of missing any patrols that might have become hostile to them, even though they were medicine cats and had the right to be there. When the two toms reached the fence that bordered twoleg territory, Swiftnose jumped up it with out pause. "You check that nest, and I'll check this one. We have to hurry, but we can't get too separated."


OOC: Derp. Wolf's turn.

A growl erupted from the other side of the fence.  "Where do you think you're going on our territory" a deep voice said.  The fence shook as a dark figure lept onto it, cutting off Swiftnose's path.  "Now now, Doyle.  Let's at least give them a chance to explain themselves,"  The other voice came from the medicine cat's opposite side.  Both rouges' claws were out, and they didn't particularly seem open to negotiations, despite what the second one seemed to be implying.

(ooc:You wanted 2 rouges, right?)

"We are getting herbs, we need them for our clan. Now please move." Nightpaw meowed, easily beating the two toms in size. He bulked his shoulders slightly, sensing the hostility between them. He hoped this wouldn't turn ugly, but pushed his own claws out, just in case they attacked. Nightpaw looked to Swiftnose, hoping he would either convince them to move, or to intimidate also.

That was sooner than I had hoped... "We really don't want any trouble. We just want to look for a few plants and go, that's all." Swiftnose kept a calm composure, but these dangerous cats didn't look like they could have their minds changed. He knew there were cats wandering Twolegplace, but he had been begging to come across kittypets. At least they would have been too lazy to bother with them.

"Plants?!" Doyle scoffed, "What would cats want to do with plants?!" He edged closer. He wasn't exactly sure what herbs were, but that didn't matter. "I'm not buying that," the other one mewed, looking Nightpaw straight in the face. Then, without a moment's hesitation, she let out a yowl and slashed at the tom, attempting to knock him from the fence. Doyle mimicked her, slashing at Swiftnose in the same manner.

The black tom gave a surprised gasp when he was suddenly struck with claws. He barely saved himself from falling off the fence with a quick wave of his tail; he doubted that Nightpaw would have the same luck with his stump. His mentor hadn't focused his training on fighting. In fact, he hardly knew how to fight at all, let alone on the thin top of a fence. This wouldn't end well for them, but he had to at least give an effort. Maybe they're just acting tough and a few scratches would scare them away. Swiftnose reached out with extended claws, trying to slash at Doyle while remaining balanced on the fence.

Swiftnose used Front Paw Strike, dealing 14 damage and using 10 stamina.

Nightpaw dug his claws into the wood of the fence, clinging at he saw the blow coming. Deal a good amount of damage, but barely fazing the clearly bigger tom. He shook his unfazed brain, and his brain took over, his completed battle training taking over. Battle was like second instinct to him, so he used it to his advantage. He saw Swiftnose use a simple move, but effective. He smashed his paw across his opponents face, causing the same amount of damage, but way more dazing.

Nightpaw used Front Paw Strike, dealing 14 damage and using 10 stamina.

Flannery let out a hiss as the tabby smacked her. She shook her head to clear it. "Well, you're a crafty one, ain'tcha? she growled as she swiped at him again. Doyle took Swiftnose's attack easily. The larger tom could easily balance the smack without so much as a flick of his tail. "You should be off before I claw out your throat," he hissed with another swipe at the medicine cat.

OOC: Wow, Nightpaw almost fainted. I thought we were supposed to stay at least half health? Or else their wounds would get infected. I'll just wait for Sun to post o.o

IC: Swiftnose was dazed by the blow. This wasn't going well at all- they'd get themselves killed by infections, if not by bleeding out! "Come on, Nightpaw, we have to get out of here!" He jumped from the fence, landing a little awkwardly in his haste. He checked to make sure that his apprentice had heard him before darting away through old SkyClan territory with a trail of crimson staining the snow.
