Quite a Day for Murder

ooc: making this because it's for my plot, and because I no want 3 characters. xD


ic: The day was young, and, for some reason, the birds weren't chirping on this fine day. They knew something was about to happen. Maybe today wasn't going to be such a bright day after all...

Scarletfire glared at the wall of the Nursery. Being a queen was so aggrevating!

Happykit prodded her side. "Mama! Let's play! C'mon!" he persisted, eyes gleaming with excitement. "I'm so bored, mama!"

The queen just glared at the wall, thinking, thinking, thinking. Finally, she sat up to inhale the warm air around her. "Where's Inkkit?" she asked.

Happykit turned his head to look. "He's over there! He still won't play with me," he complained, staring at him with a single eye.

His mother stood up, lumbering over to the small kit in the corner. "Inkkit," she hissed, "play with your brother so I don't have to deal with him!"

"But mama," the kit said, "I don't like playing games. They're never fun. Plus, why should I? What's the point?"

"The point is that I told you to do it. Now play with your brother!" Scarletfire demanded, violet eyes burning. She just wanted to nap!

"But mama-"

"Inkkit. I mean it. Play with your brother, now."

...

"No."

There was a long pause. "What?"

"No," Inkkit repeated again, challenging his mother.

The black she-cat gave a few heavy breaths before grabbing the kit's scruff.

"Mmngh! Mama, put me down! Stop! Stop it!" Inkkit squealed, pawing at her maw. "Put me down, put me down!"

Happy watched, unblinking. He wondered what she was going to do. Geez, Inkkit sure does get into a lot of trouble! Mama always gets mad at him for so many things!

Scarletfire approached a puddle of water, glaring into it.

Inkkit curled his feet up against his belly. "M- Ma...?" He couldn't speak.

A long moment passed before she said finally, "I'm finished with you! You make me so mad, Inkkit!" She slammed him into the pond and held him down with a single paw, keeping his head down.

The force knocked the air from the feeble kit's lungs. His paws thrashed about, sending water splashing against Scarletfire's black fur. He choked as water filled his lungs.

Happykit watched wide-eyed. "M- Mama...? What are you doing to brother Inkkit?" he wondered, careening his head to get a better look. Was this a new way of grooming? If so, Inkkit didn't seem to like it.

Scarletfire said nothing, just stared emotionless into the pool of water that her young kit was slowly losing his life in.

Finally, the little paws stopped moving in the water, and Scarletfire stared down at her son. She said nothing, and released her massive paw from the kit. He rose to the surface, but said nothing, his face down to stare at the bottom of the shallow puddle.

Happykit bounded over and peered into the water. He poked him with a paw. The cold breeze ruffled the kit's fur.

"Do you see, Happykit?" she told him. "Do you see what will happen when you don't obey?" Her indigo eyes flashed with anger.

"What did you do to him?" he asked.

"I killed your brother," the queen sneered. "Because he wouldn't obey."

Happykit whipped his head around to look at her. N- No way! She wouldn't do that! Inkkit can't die! The kit turned around to prod his brother. "Inkkit, no! No!! Inkkit!"

"Happykit, stop. You're making a scene."

Happykit felt as if a thousand seas were trailing down his face. "B- But...! Inkkit..... He was my brother!" He looked up with mournful eyes as a cat approached.

Violetkit just saw her brother lose his still developing life, and she had done nothing to stop it. Or even try to stop it. Does that make me as bad a my mommy? she asked herself siletly, pretending to be asleep in the nest where her dead brother had lay beside her just the other night.
She let out a big yawn, stretching like she had just woken up. She needed a stretch anyway. "Mommy, why is Inkkit asleep in water? Isn't that dangerous?" she asked innocently, not daring to poke her mother in the side as she would have done before.
She nervously crept over to her brother, sniffing his pelt as a stong wind bobbed him lightly up and down in the icy water. How could the sun dare to shine on a day like this? How could StarClan let this even happen?! "Inkkit, get up!" she mewed loudly, pouncing on her brother to see if that might wake him up, but she knew it would be hopeless.

Happykit fell into Violetkit sadly. "V- Violet...kit! Inkkit isn't here anymore!" he sobbed. "He's with Star- StarClan!!" He sobbed into her small pelt. He wanted his sister more than anything. All of his sisters. "Let's go, Violetkit. Let's.... .... Violetkit..."

Scarletfire watched, unmoving, no emotion on her face.

"I know. I saw it." Violetkit whispered (quietly enought for Scarletfire not to hear) into her brother's ear soflty, giving him small conforting licks. "Let's go find Daddy." She let her brother away, not able to even look at her mother or Inkkit. As much as she tried to forget it, the way Inkkit's arms just... stopped... kept replaying in her mind, how unemotionless her mother's face was, how she didn't care for Inkkit. And worst of all, the thought that that might happen to her if she said no. Violetkit began to retch, stumbling as nothing came out but a small pool of bile. She carried on walking/stumbling to the warriors den with her brother, ignoring the small retches that continued. As she collapsed into the entrace of the warriors den, mewing like a new-born kit, her father wasn't there.

Happykit ran off to comfort her, as she did him. "It's okay, Violetkit! Just don't upset mama, okay? P- Please?" He licked her between the ears softly, shuddering.

Scarletfire was still in the same position, unmoving. Something inside her just snapped. She felt no guilt. Actually, it was pretty... satisfying to drown her child like she did.

"I won't upset her," Violetkit mumbled, standing up again on her unsteady legs. "But we have to tell Daddy, or... will that upset Mama more?" Violetkit felt so confused, if she told, her mother would probably be exciled or worse and if she didn't, she would feel guilty for the rest of her life. "C'mon, Happykit, let's get some fresh-kill and..." Her voice trailed on as her mind came to a complete stop. "Pretend nothing happened. Just like a normal day, someone will find out Inkkit's missing, and then we won't have to deal with it..."

Happykit shuddered. Was that even possible!? Act as if Inkkit was still there in the corner, watching them with eager eyes? "Okay," he agreed shakily. He trudged slowly to the fresh-kill pile to get a mouse. Bringing it back over, he eyed his sister silently as he bent down to eat. He could never look at his mother the same again! "I won't let her hurt us," he promised softly.

Violetkit didn't reply, but just curled close to her brother, chewing slowly on small piece of bird. "Will we tell Papa?" Violetkit asked, as she saw a flash of her father's pelt coming through the camp entrance.

Happykit shook his head. "Don't! Don't! Mama will get really mad!" he whispered, not turning to look at Goldenflame.

"Okay, I won't tell anyone, I promise," Violetkit promised, her eyes an unreadable blur of emotion.

Happykit's head fell as his father walked past. He turned and quietly munched on his meal, avoiding all eyes.

Violetkit curled up even smaller, shutting her eyes tight as images replayed and flashed in her mind continuously.

Shadowstar had been taking a short power nap in her den when she heard the wails of the kits. She blinked the sleep out of her eyes for a few seconds before quickly getting up and shaking her pelt free of debris that clung to it while she dozed. Exiting her den, she padded across the clearing to where she was close to the kits. "What's going on here?" She asked them before suddenly seeing the still body of Inkkit lying in the water. With a sharp gasp, she stumbled backwards from the shock of a random dead kit. "What...what happened?!"

ic: Happykit stayed silent, unable to control himself when his eyes trailed over to his mother.

Scarletfire turned to Shadowstar and glared at her. "Oh, Inkkit?" she said nonchalauntly, as if nothing had happened. She flexed her claws and raked the ground lightly. "Let's just say that I made sure he wouldn't disobey me again..." she snickered, grinning as she spoke.

Shadowstar quickly turned onto Scarletfire, hackles raised and ears flat against her head in pure fury. "You did this?!" She yowled. "You killed your own kit?!"
