Hatin' while layin'

Stormkit laid on a rock, his messy fur shining in the sun-light. He opened up one of his icy blue eyes and glared around the clearing, flicking his torn left ear. He hated this, he should be an apprtince! He could fight, and he wanted to show the stupid ThunderClan cats and SkyClans cats that WindClan wasn't weak, even if they were running low on warriors. His gaze flicked around the empty clearing, his eyes fixing on the nusery. He sighed, he missed his mother, and he just wished that he could remember her sweet voice...or what she even looked like. His icy eyes turned soft for a moment, but it became hard again, and he hissed at himself. What was he thinking? He knew that he couldn't be nice, even if he wanted to! "Why must it be so hard to be kind?" he growled to himself as he closed his eyes and rested his head on his black paws.

A voice sounded from across the clearing.
"It's hard to be nice because other people never return the favor." An older she-cat stepped awkwardly from the elder's den, stretching downwards. She moved gingerly to a spot with sunlight and lay down in it. "But the reward is greater in the end."

Stormkit opened up his eyes, and glared at Heathersong. "Yea, what ever," he growled at the elder, and got to his paws. He flick his torn ear at the elder, and leaped to the ground. "Hey, Heathersong?" he meowed as he padded to the she-cat. "Can you tell me a story? I always enjoyed your story," he whispered, he didn't want people to think that he was getting soft, mostly his father! His father might have been dead, but he had a feeling that he was still watching his son.

"A story?" Heathersong mewed. She closed her eyes, thinking for a moment. "Is there one in particular you wanted to hear?"

Stormkit thought for a moment, his icy blue eyes sparkling. "Hm...what about what happen to your leg? I don't think I ever heard that story," he meowed as he flicked his torn ear.

"That story is sort of long," Heathersong answered, but decided to tell it anyway. "When I was born, I was in Shadowclan. To this day, I am still not entirely sure why my brother and I were put into Shadowclan, but my parents made their choice, and that was that. Before I became an apprentice, I came here, to Windclan. Featherstar took me in, and decided to train me. I became a warrior, and hadn't spoken to my brother in a long time. His name is Moonpaw." She paused here, and a smile of bliss went across her face. Then it turned dark.

"I hadn't seen him in a long time," she continued. "One day, I was out past where I wasn't supposed to be, near the Thunderpath. I heard a voice, his voice, calling my name. I glanced over in time to see him coming towards me, but he wasn't moving fast enough. A monster was coming down on him, preparing to pounce. The last thing I remember is leaping towards Moonpaw and knocking him out of the way." The elder stopped speaking and closed her ice blue eyes, reminiscing.

Stormkit listened, his eyes widen. "Then what happened?" he asked, his paws itching to know more. Did she wake up in ShadowClan, did she wake up in WindClan? Did she see her brother after that? Did her brother even make it? All of those questions entered his mind as he wrapped his ringed tail around his paws.

"Well, it was sort of blurry," Heathersong said, opening her eyes again. "Moonpaw attempted to drag me all the way back to Windclan camp, but I was too much of a dead weight for him. He ran off for the medicine cat or help while I lay drifting out of consciousness." The she-cat took a deep breath before finishing the story. "I finally woke up here, in the medicine cat den. Moonpaw was fine, thanks to me saving his life, but my legs weren't so lucky."

Stormkit nodded slowly, his eyes shining with amazement. "Wow," he meowed, and for once, he wasn't being mean or lashing out at people...just like he was before his mother died.

"So here I am," she chuckled darkly. "I wish I could help out my clan, though, they certainly need it."

Stormkit nodded, and glanced around, his eyes dark. "I wish that I could fight! I would be the best warrior! I could help in the battle against ThunderClan and SkyClan! I would be a great help!" he growled, bearing his small teeth.

"Whoa, calm down," Heathersong said, her eyes wide. "You still have a lot of training to go through. Besides, you're not quite old enough yet."

Stormkit huffed, puffing out his chest. "I'm five moons old! I'm ready to be a warrior!" he said, his eyes glinting. His torn ear flicked with happiness. He always remembered how he got his torn ear, but nobody else in the Clan knew, he had never told anyone. "I bet I could take on an 'paw'!"

Heathersong chuckled. She hadn't dealt with this as a queen, mainly because Willowstream had always wanted to become a medicine cat and was naturally calm in demeanor.
"I'm sure that some day, you will be able to," she assured Stormkit. "For now, just enjoy being a kit."

Stormkit sat down, growling. "I don't want to be a kit, I want to be a warrior!"
