Stormpaw's hunting training

Raincloud sat at the camp entrance waiting for Stormpaw.

ooc: do you have any idea of how to use the hunting system or are you completely clueless?

Stormpaw yawned and trotted out into the clearing up to Raincloud. "What are we learning today?" She asked.

ooc: I read the rules and I know how it works, but I need to act at least a little clueless since I'm a new apprentice and know nothing.

ooc: ok, i just wanted to know how much you knew since i am supposed to be teaching you

ic: "Good morning, Stormpaw. Today we're going to be working on your hunting skills," Raincloud mewed. "Follow me," she stood up and began to pad of into the forest.

Stormpaw trotted along behind her mentor, her eyes straight forward and ears pricked. Worry sparked in her mind but she pushed it away. Am I supposed to be looking at my feet for twigs or at the trees for mice or ahead for aproaching stuff? She thought warily.

Raincloud, oblivious to Stormpaw's uncertainty, paused and sniffed the air. She smelled some prey near by. She turned to face Stormpaw. "What do you smell?"

Stormpaw lifted her chin and took a deep breath. "Mouse, possible shrew." She mewed, remembering when she was just a kit, when the fresh-kill pile "attacked" her. So many new smells then!

"There is a mouse near by, but the shrew scent is stale, so it's long gone," Raincloud mewed. "Now see if you can pinpoint the mouse using your senses."

Stormpaw crouched awkwardly, nose raised for a moment before dropping back down. She flicked her tail at a pile of leaves near a bush. "There," she concluded proudly.

Raincloud nodded approvingly. "Now show me your best hunter's crouch."

"Uhm..." She looked thoughtful for a moment, trying to remember back when she watched the older kitties train. Finally, she crouched low, leaning a little to one side as if trying to merely see the prey(though she wasn't, just what it looked like.), her tail laying straight out like a twig pressing against the ground like a snake in hiding. She flattened her ears against her head and sniffed the air.

ooc: Her hunter's crouch fails D:

"Tuck your forepaws under your shoulders and keep you weight on your back legs. Also keep your tail off the ground and try to balance yourself; you're leaning to one side," Raincloud explained patiently while demonstrating her own crouch so Stormpaw could get a visual.

Stormpaw quickly tucked in her front paws an tensed her back ones as if she was to pounce. She lifted her tail a little, and fixed her lean so she was upright. Watching Raincloud closely for a moment, she checked back on the mouse and crawled forward. Slowly, she gathered her haunches and pounced...

Stormpaw drooped her tail in disappointment. "I missed it!" she muttered.

"Don't worry, even the best hunters miss sometimes. And try to loosen up some; you're very tense," Raincloud mewed encouragingly.
