Prologue

"Flamebreeze!" The she-cat yowled from the nursery. The big tom raced out to the call of his love. He raced into the small den. "Frozenleaf." The
creamy cat tried not to yowl, for fear of waking her den mate and her litter of four. The tom popped his head out of the den. "Frozenleaf!" He
called into the sleeping camp. "I'm old, not deaf." Said the she-cat the trudged out of the large den. "Frozenleaf!" The flaming tom moaned in a whisper, with a hint of amusement in his voice. One of the little kits that had been woken by the noise popped his little head up. "Littlekit!" He mewled in excitement. "Littlekit," his tired mother mrrowed into her paws, "don't bug them." "But I'm not!" He protested. "Then stand back." His mother replied. Flamebreeze popped his head back into the den as Frozenleaf entered. The she-cat let out a yowl, unable to hold it back any longer. "Ok, breath." Frozenleaf said. The she-cat breathed deeply. "It's coming." Frozenleaf muttered. Littlekit looked around the legs of the older cats. The she-cat pushed as Frozenleaf told her to. In no time there was a bundle on the ground. "You lick it." She said to Flamebreeze. Flamebreeze lifted the bundle towards himself, and licked it. When he had finished, he nudged the squirming kit towards it's mother. The kit nuzzled close and began to suckle. Littlekit squeezed in to look. "Littlekit!" His mother scolded. "She looks like a spirit and a flame." The words seemed to flow from his mouth, as if not really spoken by him. "Oh Softbreeze." Flamebreeze whispered. "Spiritkit." Softbreeze whispered. Frozenleaf looked up, and said "The Spirits Flame and Waters Foam will rise up, and quench the flames of battle, and raise the flames of peace."

That same night, Foamkit was born.
