Sunflare had been slipping off to patrol the borders alone of late, hoping he could learn something to take back to Ajex. This evening, he walked the edge of the Thunderpath, alert for any sign of ThunderClan.
There. A scent drifted on the breeze. Sunflare turned his head and there he was. A young tom, probably a newly made warrior. Full of knowledge but still naïve.
“Good evening!” he called, slipping into a friendly persona. “How runs the prey in the forest?”

i don't have any big lasting plans; i'm too cowardly to take a stand;
The warming weather had improved Flickerpaw's mood significantly. While he was supposed to be on a border patrol with some warriors, he ended up wandering quite a ways away from them. Whether or not that was intentional, he wasn't sure, but he was enjoying his time alone to walk the territory. He found himself near the Thunderpath, taking in the acrid scents of the flat gray stone with morbid curiosity. A breeze ruffled his fur, alerting him to the presence of a ShadowClan cat on the other side and not a moment too soon. A voice called out to him, "Good evening! How runs the prey in the forest?" and Flickerpaw snapped his head up to see a ShadowClan warrior watching him. The tom's voice was silky smooth, but if Flickerpaw had learned anything during his life, it was to not trust anyone.
The ThunderClan tom matched Sunflare's tone, offering him a friendly smile and a wave of his tail. The fact that both of them were alone made his pelt prickle with wariness. "Hello there," they called, keeping up the cheerful facade. This cat wasn't going to get anything out of them easily, though. "Prey is running, as prey does. How runs the prey in the marshes? Any good frogs lately?"

Sunflare could recognize a mask when he saw one — after all, it was his most used trick. “Oh, frogs are returning with Newleaf rain, as always,” he purred. “What of mice, though, and birds? Do they sleep in Leafbare like the frogs?”
