Mink paws [assessment]

Eaglefly went to the apprentices den.  He had been assigned to go check how mink paw was doing so far.

Alrighty kiddo. Let’s see what you can do.  Show me what you got.


He led the apprentice to the clearing for spar practice.

Ready? Begin!! he charged right away.  The apprentice had to learn that opponents could attack when off guard

He slid low wanting to get her belly



It didn’t go as he had planned and he flopped right on his face in a groan

She'd been waiting for her assessment, and when it finally came, Minkpaw was pleased to find that it was Eaglefly. She didn't know the older warrior well on a personal level, but she knew he was a strong warrior, and if they'd picked him that meant they thought she'd be good, too, right? When he came to collect her, she followed eagerly, moving opposite him in the sparring flat that he'd chosen.

"I'm ready!" she said, immediately taking a defensive stance with her head low and her legs spread evenly. Minkpaw's long tail lashed back and forth, but she'd barely had the chance to prepare when Eaglefly charged. Luckily, her sparring with Marigoldpaw had paid off, and Minkpaw saw where he was aiming. As he dropped, preparing to slide under her belly, Minkpaw leaped straight into the air, all four paws leaving the ground at the same time. The warrior skidded to a stop where she'd been a second before, and Minkpaw twisted midair, coming down on top of him with her paws in his ribs.

Grinning, she set her claws into Eaglefly's shoulders and hunkered down, along for the ride.

Minkpaw used Leap and Hold on Eaglefly, dealing 6 damage at the cost of 15 stamina. Eaglefly is pinned for 1 turn.

Eagle fly had no time before his first mistake before the apprentice was already using it to her full advantage.  GOOD!! But also, geeez! He needed to get her off!

He twisted and smacked at her to try and break out

Just as quickly as she'd evaded his initial charge, Eaglefly twisted under her, and she lost her grip, shoving away from him and landing several tail lengths off to the side. Her ears slicked to the side, and there was a determined look in her eye as she calculated her next move. Darting in, she feinted to the left, and then went the opposite way, closing the gap and rearing up on her hind legs. The lanky she-cat boxed the warrior's ears with sheathed paws.

Minkpaw used Front Paw Blow and Swift Strike, for a combined total of 11 damage and 17 stamina.

Eaglefly was stunned momentarily… who was this kiddos mentor again? They had done great!  This apprentice was incredible!! He was impressed.

He smirked a little and dove at her again wanting to see if she was still quick on her paws

This time he found the target and smacked right into her. He winced at how hard the hit was… oh gee he had not meant to send it that hard. He worriedly glanced at her hoping she was fine. Hopefully she just had the wind knocked out of her

She hit him once, twice, and went in for a third instead of retreating and repositioning. The bold move didn't pay off, as Eaglefly recovered before she could hit him again, and quicker than she could move out of the way, there were powerful paws in her belly. Minkpaw was a tall, long-limbed cat, and had already passed the age where she should have been a warrior, so she wasn't small by any means, but she also wasn't heavy, and Eaglefly was a powerful cat.

The blow lifted her paws off the ground and sent her tumbling backwards. She couldn't get her feet under her, so she slammed to the ground with a low wheeze as she impacted, the breath stolen from her lungs in a rush. "Ow..." she exhaled, looking up at Eaglefly with a grin.

"How did I do?"

Minkpaw is KO'd, assessment complete!

Eaglefly breathed a sigh or relif seeing her alaright and even grinning.

"You did great Minkpaw. You are a great fighter, I am happy to have you by my side! I'll let your mentor and Tigerstar know that you are ready in terms of fighting strength.
