Larkshine Tier 1 Warrior | Shadowclan | She/Her
Larkshine was returning to the camp from her normal early morning hunt. The last remaining stars of the night twinkled in the colorful picture the new sun painted. She turned and looked up at the sky, ‘This is my favorite time of day’. Her walk back to camp was calm, the birds were quietly chirping high in the branches in the cold morning air.
After dropping a mouse off at the kill pile, Larkshine made her way to the warrior’s den. She needed a nap before taking her apprentice out for training. She curled up in her bed and drifted off to sleep.
The rustling of other cats leaving the warrior’s den drew Larkshine out of her dreams. The grey and cream molly stretched out and made her way over to the apprentice den. Orchidpaw was engrossed in antics near the camp clearing, finding a quiet spot under the midday sun where light dappled through the leaves. It turned the patch of grass into a dance of shadows! She challenged herself to avoid the patches of light, her eyes narrowed with concentration.
Though, as Larkshine called out, she jumped and tumbled into a patch of light. With a soft huff, she lifted her head out of the grass with wide and interested eyes. "Larkshine!" She called, ears perked with curiosity. "I'm here!"
She bounded over with her tail held high, her ears perked, and her eyes wide pools of excitement. "I was just working on my crouching technique!" She purred, her eyes sparkling as she shared that with her mentor. I hope she'll be proud! She tilted her head, eager to hear what Larkshine had on her mind. "Are we training?!" She blurted out suddenly.

Larkshine stood up and looked down at her apprentice as she ran up. She hadn’t expected the young cat to be out of the apprentice den yet and was a bit embarrassed that she wasn’t awake first. Her embarrassment faded quickly and was replaced with a smile when Orchidpaw eagerly asked if they were training.
“Yes, we are!” She chuckled, “I figured I would show you the territory and the good hunting spots at the same time.” Larkshine flicked her tail at her apprentice, motioning her to follow. “How did you crouching practice go? Do you think you’re ready to sneak up on prey?” Mischief sparkled in Larkshine’s golden eyes as she looked back at Orchidpaw.
Once out of camp, Larkshine pointed out the deep spots of the marsh to Orchidpaw. “You must be careful where you step. A lot of the spots are deeper than the appear and you will drown.” Her tone was stern, and she had a serious look in her eyes. Larkshine had seen a few predators fall into the deep parts of the marsh and drown, while she was out hunting. Few were lucky enough to make it out and the ones who were, took a long time to recover. “There are spots with rocks that you can hop on, but still, you have to be careful because most are under water and quite slippery.” She mewed, her tone less serious than before.
Larkshine made her way into the dryer bits of the marsh that had good under growth. “This is my favorite hunting spot. You don’t have to worry about the sinking mud of the marsh, but it is still close enough to the water that you can catch prey going to and from the water.” She crouched down and slightly opened her mouth to flood her scent receptors. There was prey around for sure. “Alright, its up to you Orchidpaw, you got this!” She whispered as she winked at the black and white molly. Orchidpaw beamed up at Larkshine. We're going to train - I get to hunt! She shuffled her paws excitedly, her ears perked. "Of course, I'm ready to sneak up on prey!" She purred. She genuinely couldn't wait, and it was expressed in her excited bouncing next to Larkshine as she led the way out of camp.
However, as she listened to Larkshine's warnings about the dangers lurking in their territory, the tone shifted. She nodded solemnly. It looked innocent, and that's what was the scariest. "Yes, Larkshine. I promise to always be careful." She mewed quietly with her tail slightly drooped, scared instead of excited like before. Why was being a warrior so scary?
Yet, as Larkshine led them to a safer spot in the marsh, Orchidpaw stared at her mentor with curiosity. She seemed so confident prey was here, and she desperately mimicked what she saw - attempting to scent the air, too.
She crouched low to the ground, her muscles coiled like springs ready to pounce. She scanned the undergrowth, desperately wanting a sign of any movement. Then.... She spotted it. A small rodent foraging. For a heartbeat, time seemed to stand still. Her heartbeat raced and her instincts guided her every step of the way. She suddenly lunged forward, flying through the air in a graceful arc.
Orchidpaw is trying to catch a rodent... rolling (-5sp)
But, she was wrong. It was a rat. Orchidpaw's heart skipped a beat as she caught sight of what it really was, its sharp teeth bared in a snarl of defiance. This was no ordinary prey - it was a rat, large and aggressive, ready to fight for its life. It was as big as a kit. she had launched herself at the rat, claws extended. Oops.
Orchidpaw used Jumping Strike on the rat, doing 9 (6+3) damage and costing -7 stamina.
Orchidpaw 20/20 HP 48/60 SP (-7 & - 5)
Rat 16/25 HP (-9) 120/120 SP

Larkshine was glad that Orchidpaw had heeded her warning, but she understood her words dampened the young apprentice’s spirit. Her ear slightly fell backwards when she looked back at the molly. She knew how she felt because she felt the same way when Badgermask had warned her.
She watched as her apprentice copied her motions. ‘Smart kit!’ She thought with a smile. Larkshine observed Orchidpaw as she stalked her prey, her form was good and her pounce was impeccable! She jumped to her feet and joined the little tuxedo cat where she had landed, only to be greeted by a rat. “Oop!” She mewed looking surprised at the rather large rodent snarling at her. ‘How did I miss that?!’ Larkshine thought as she smacked the aggressive creature on the noggin. She was being more playful with it than serious, in hopes of keeping its attention off her apprentice.
Larkshine used Boop Front Paw Strike for -7 HP and -7 SP

Orchidpaw was horrified at the massive rodent and desperately swiped at it with her unsheathed claws, joining her mentor in taking swipes. unfortunately only landing one blow. "Get it!" She gasped. She had seen rats find themselves on the freshkill pile before, but it wasn't as big as this one. There was no way!
The rat, during Orchidpaw's reckless clawing display, didn't hesitate to dish out consequences. She recoiled in pain as the rat's sharp teeth sank into her left paw. With a yowl of agony, she tried to shake the rodent off, but its grip was strong, causing her to stagger backward.
Orchidpaw used Front Paw Strike, dealing 6 damage and using 7 stamina.
Rat used Gripping Bite on Orchidpaw, dealing 7 damage and costing 15 stamina. Lasts for 2 turns.

Fear surged through Larkshine as the rat turned on Orchidpaw and chomped down on her paw. The fear was quickly replaced by anger as her apprentice cried out. She stood up and snapped the rat’s neck between her teeth.
She dropped the rat and looked at Orchidpaw. Guilt wailed up in her chest. If she hadn't been playing with the rat her apprentice wouldn't have gotten bit. "I'm so sorry Orchidpaw! Are you ok?" She mewed as she rasped her tongue across the young she-cats forehead.
Larkshine used Snap to Kill the Rat for -7 hp and -7 sp

Orchidpaw felt instant relief as the rat loosened its grip on her paw - falling to the ground. She immediately inspected her paw - scarlet welling up. With a soft lick, she was further relieved to realize it wasn't as bad as it appeared. It was a nick for sure, but she thought she had lost a toe.
She looked up at her mentor, her eyes sad - and she leaned into Larkshine. It was only a dull ache now, yet it was her confidence that hurt. Her mind jumped to Heatherberry.
"Do you think Heatherberry will be mad?" She mewed, completely ignoring the question of whether or not she was okay. All she could think about was the rage that roared in Heatherberry's eyes when she was a kit.

“Don’t be silly Orchidpaw. Heatherberry will think you’re so brave! I know I do, you did a great job!” Larkshine mewed looking down at her apprentice. She stood up and motioned for the young she-cat to follow her. “Grab that rat and lets head back to camp, ok?” Her tail flicked as she sniffed the air, checking for any other threats that may be lingering nearby.
