| As the other medicine cats arrived, Littlesplash instinctively stepped closer to Heatherberry. A lump worked itself into his throat as a scent that had buried itself in his mind began to permeate the air. All other smells were drowned out as his fear fixated on it - Skyclan. He knew better than to say anything that would break the peaceful air between the medicine cats and it wasn't in his nature to stir up trouble. Still, the tiny grey and white tom's coat instinctively fluffed up as his wide eyes darted between Smokepetal and Thymelight.
"You're from Skyclan..." He breathed softly, nearly inaudibly. When the clans had journeyed back to the forest, they had all kept their distance. The medicine cat hadn't thought much of it as he stayed at the center of Riverclan, caring for Cindersky and Rowansong. That whole time the knowledge of Beechfang had sat at the back of his skull like a nagging burr. A chill went down his spine but he said nothing more as he quickly followed after Heatherberry, not wanting to be left behind.
Before long, the light of the Moonstone welcomed them into the open cavern. Silently, he prayed to Starclan that no cat would hurt him or his clan. It was a futile plea given that the tensions were due to battle just over the horizon. As another shiver coursed through his body, Littlesplash couldn't help the way his fur continued to stand on end. He hoped none of the other medicine cats thought poorly of him for it as he settled down away from the Skyclan cats. This wasn't there fault, right? They couldn't have known what Beechfang had done and accepted her back? The thoughts drifted away as he fell into an uneasy sleep. |

The air was vibrating with tension between Hemlockfox and Thymelight and the tom was not too eager to dispel it. Smokepetal had surely taken notice of the frosty silence between them, but she'd long since given up trying to foster any good will between the two younger medicine cats. Not that he particularly blamed her - they got along horrendously. The tom stared at the ground as they walked, lagging slightly behind the others to avoid having to make small talk. Luckily, the trip seemed to go by faster than usual any, before he knew it, they had arrived.
He ignored the other clans' medicine cats as usual but was decidedly less aggressive towards them, opting to simply avoid speaking rather than being openly hostile. Sunfire had instilled in him a deep-rooted distaste for the other clans, but Hemlockfox was slowly discovering that they weren't all as horrible as he'd made them out to be. Still horrible, but not the savages he'd once thought. Though...ThunderClan and RiverClan could still go eat crowfood for all he cared.
They were spineless cowards, the lot of them - willing to go to war over a grudge from seasons ago that many of them hadn't even been alive for! He hardly even knew the cats that had been involved much less most of the story! With a lash of his tail, Hemlockfox scanned the gathered cats, looking for Daisyfang, but much to his surprise, she wasn't here. Perhaps she was dealing with more important matters? The medicine cat frowned as they descended into the tunnel. That truely was a shame - he'd really been wanting to talk to her tonight. It was the only reason he'd put up with the awkwardness of travelling with Thymelight.
Huffing, Hemlockfox padded into the open cavern, his eyes falling on the Moonstone's shimmering surface. It may be little more than a pretty rock, but it did seem to have an uncanny ability for allowing them to commune with StarClan. Though...it sort of seemed as though any shiny or reflective surface had that effect. Settling down far from Thymelight, the brown and white tom pressed his nose to the moonstone and closed his eyes, allowing sleep to overtake him.

| His sleep at the moonstone was uneasy, full of fits and anxiety-fueled nightmares. Littlesplash kicked and turned, fighting off invisible enemies. As the picture became clearer to him, the gray and white tom blinked several times to digest what seemed to be an unassuming part of the forest. Sounds of the river were in the distance, a soothing reminder of home. It was calming for a moment and the medicine cat imagined this to be no more than a regular dream until his gaze settled on the figure of several birds. Their feathers were vibrant despite being rather natural patterns. He couldn't pull his gaze away.
Two of them took flight and he was enamored as they fluttered erratically off into the distance. Snapping him from the moment, and sending a chill down his spine, came softly echoing words. 'Beware the wings of the fallen birds, for they are born from tainted feathers.' The skies darkened, clouds stamping out what light had filtered through the treetops. Panic surged in Littlesplash's chest and he woke with a starts. Widened eyes darted around the cavern as he looked at the rest of the sleeping medicine cats.
What did it mean? What was Starclan trying to tell him? And why couldn't he shake this feeling of dread? |
