Just as the sun was beginning to set, Hemlockfox gathered a variety of herbs from the little niches in the medicine den, his paws working swiftly. Though he preferred to let Thymelight handle the majority of the apprentices' moonstone journeys, he couldn't help but volunteer this time and not just because it was for his sister, Sorrelpaw. Even Bubblebeam and Ploverpaw hadn't gotten to make the trip with him. Really, he just wanted to get away from the clan for a little while.
It seemed selfish, now that he was thinking about it, but what did it matter anyway? As long as he was being productive, and it didn't affect his duties, he could be as selfish as he wanted. He was, after all, about to leave SkyClan - that seemed selfless enough. Gripping the collection of herbs gingerly between his teeth, Hemlockfox pushed his way out of the medicine den, his bright blue eyes scanning the clearing for Sorrelpaw. After a moment, he spotted her lingering on the outskirts of the camp. Perfect, she wasn't busy then.
Purring softly, the tom trotted up to her and set the herbs down at her paws, a relaxed smile on his face. "Sorrelpaw." He meowed warmly before brushing his cheek against hers in greeting. "I'm going to be taking you to the moonstone tonight, I hope you don't mind that it's me instead of Thymelight." Bringing a paw forward, he nudged the herbs closer, his tail swaying absently behind him. "Eat up and meet me by the bramble barrier when you're ready."

Pawsteps made Hemlockfox look up from a rather obnoxious knot in his fur and he blinked briefly at Sorrelpaw before straightening with a cough. She must be ready to go. "Ahem - let's get going then." With a flick of his tail, the brown point tom led the way out of the camp and into the forest. The trip was blissfully quiet tonight and, with a jolt of surprise, Hemlockfox realized that this was his first time leading an apprentice to the moonstone proper.
After some time of quiet conversation, the dark tunnel of Mother Mouth was before them. "Stick close to me, alright?" He meowed. "The tunnel is dark, but we'll be there before you know it." Keeping his tail extended to act as a guide, the medicine cat descended into the tunnel with Sorrelpaw on his heels. As promised, it didn't take very long for the tunnel to brighten and open up into the cave where the glittering Moonstone sat, perched almost ethereally in the center.
Offering his sister a comforting smile, Hemlockfox gestured to the shining stone. "Just touch your nose to the Moonstone when you're ready and Starclan will speak with you. I'll be waiting here when you wake up." With that, he stepped back and sat down. Hopefully, Starclan would have something better to share with Sorrelpaw than what they had told him.

“Hemlock,” she smiled, his new prefix still unfamiliar on her tongue, “you off somewhere?”
Her eyes fell to the bundle of herbs in his mouth, tilting her head slightly. Within a moment her silent question was answered— it was her Moonstone! Her paws itched, knowing what would come next. It felt as though she had been an apprentice forever - though, with the looming war, her warrior name felt like a curse rather than a blessing. It would propel her straight into duty - into a war she was not ready to fight. Into a war she did not want to fight.
Blinking away those thoughts, she got to her paws. It had been time since she had shared her brother’s company…When was the last time? She could not recall, as they walked together, but it warmed her chest. That something so important in her life could be shared by one of her siblings - her only brother.
“You’re my brother, Hemlock,” she smiled, gently rubbing her cheek against his, “you’d have to have bees in your brain to think I’d rather adventure with anyone else.”
She had always heard tales of the disgusting nature of the herbs - finding out quickly the stories were nothing but the truth. Her nose scrunched in disgust, chewing the herbs without comment. The sooner they were gone the better. As quickly as she had consumed the herbs she sought out her brother, her paws itching with excitement. Though she had despised their most recent journey, she did not get a lot of time with Hemlockfox - especially excited to share the step towards her warriorship with him. It felt fitting that it was a quiet night, though she could not help being unsettled by the quiet.
“How is it, being a medicine cat? I still can’t believe you’re one— it seemed like a joke at first.” She asked her brother questions on their journey, desperate to make the most of their time together, “do you still get called Bear?”
Sorrelpaw followed carefully behind Hemlockfox as they reached the Moonstone, placing each paw with purpose. As they ventured in further her eyes adjusted slowly from the dark to the sudden light, blinking in awe at the glimmering stone.
“Oh, it’s beautiful.” The blue cat murmured upon seeing the glimmering stone, taking a moment to admire it before she stepped closer slowly, “you’ll be here.” Sorrelpaw nodded tightly at her brother’s words and with a deep breath crouched before the glimmering stone, gently pressing her nose to its cold surface. Whatever came next, she wasn’t sure what to expect.
The Skyclan molly stood at the base of an oak, staring up into its leafy branches. After all this time, no matter how hard she tried, she still hadn’t learned how to climb it. She turned her attention to the ground-level prey scurrying around her and considered hunting something, until...
The fluffy ragdoll peered around the oak’s wide trunk. She blinked at the apprentice who stood on the other side before stepping into full view. Stars glittered in her big tail as it swished by her side. "Hello, Sorrelpaw," she said calmly. "How are you tonight?"
