Soot's Kit before Deputy's kit

Rapidkit wrapped her tail all around her front paws purring softly as she watched the snow fall. The clan was haulted for now on break before they walked further.

She shook out some of the snow off her pelt, but not because she cared what it looked like, she did it because it was cold and she wanted to.

All her siblings seemed to practically beg for attention from dad and while she loved all her family very very much she was not one to try and do things just for his attention or approval. In fact, she did not do things for anyone's approval just about (the exception here was her sister Crakekit). While crakekit and Heatherkit seemed to enjoy competition, sparring and early training, Stoatkit and Fidgetkit seemed to enjoy thinking lots and deep contemplation about the world around them, she enjoyed just being around her family and getting to snuggle them and attention in that sense.

She flicked her tail side to side as she glanced around. Hmm there was dad now, he looked kinda busy but seemed to be almost done, he was talking to some warrior about probably important things.

She loved him so much, she loved being his kit. She loved being Soot's kit... but she did not always love being the Deputies kit...

Hopefully that makes sense? She loved her dad but sometimes the important job he held made her nervous and anxious. Everyone always looked at her and her siblings like they had to be the bestest kits ever. And while she did try to be good and all sometimes all the attention being on her was unwelcome.

Crakekit and Heatherkit seemed to almost thrive off this energy... she on the other paw did not like it so much.

She waited till Soot looked to be completly done with whatever he was doing before going over to him.

The small love bundle of a kit gave a gentle purr and nuzzled against him a bit. "dad? are you done for the day?" she asked pawing a bit at him. In her eyes, he would always be dad first and deputy second.

Sootstorm was utterly exhausted from a long day of first moving, then hunting and scouting patrols to make sure that his Clan was well and fed. He had just returned from a hunting patrol, depositing his precious few catches at the hole they had dug for the fresh-kill pile, when Rapidkit came up to him. In a way, he was grateful that it was Rapidkit and not any of her other littermates. As much as he loved his kits, they could be a really chaotic handful to take care of, and he just didn't have the energy right now to play another round of mossball. He didn't know how Fennelbreeze did it, keeping all five of them in check at the same time.

He crouched down to nuzzle Rapidkit's head. "Yes, I'm done for the day," He purred, trying to not sound as tried as he was feeling. "Did you want something? A game, perhaps?" He asked wearily. StarClan, please don't let him fall asleep on his paws.

Rapidkit gave a gentle purr as she watched him. He looked so so tired and she wished he would take better care of himself. He took excellent care of her, her siblings, and mama. So why was it so hard for him to do the same for himself she wondered to herself.

She grinned a bit to herself getting an idea… if she requested that they just chill for a bit he might actually let himself rest before moving on to some other patrol that he seemed to always be busy with. If she could convince him that she needed that and let him believe that him resting with her was for her and not part of anything else that would be ideal.

She gave a little yawn and stretched her front paws out. “I’m tired dad. My paws hurt from all this travel” she meowed quietly giving him the widest eyes she could.

“We don’t have to play.. she meowed her voice trailing off as she nuzzled her check against his leg and tried to climb up him to nuzzle his shoulder as well. But can we cuddle for a little? I’m cold this was indeed true… she was cold but the main objective of this was still to get him to take a break and get attention from him in her own way. It was not like she couldn’t warm up somewhere else too but this is the only way she knew to get her dad to stop working. He wouldn’t stop for himself but he might stop if he thought his kit needed him. She thought that maybe this was manipulative and temporarily felt bad about it but at the same time, why did he not take care of himself and only allow himself to rest if she said she needed it?

She nuzzled harder at his legs pushing into his pelt and warmer fluff her own kitten fur still growing out even though she had already grown up so fast and a lot.

"Do they?" Sootstorm mumbled, worry written all over his face. He'd better check with Daisyfang to inspect all the kits' pads, just in case one of them were cracked or broken. His kits could be awfully stubborn sometimes, and have an idea in their head that they're doing the Clan a favor by not saying anything until their paws were infected and leaking pus. The tom gave Rapidkit's pads a few licks, just in case, then paused and bent down to let her nuzzle his cheek. She was cold? Well, it was leafbare, and she doesn't play around as much as her littermates, so she must be feeling the chill. "Okay, let's cuddle," He agreed, finding himself looking forward to curling around his daughter and spending time with her. He found a sheltered spot in the make-shift camp, and gently settled into a resting position. He beckoned Rapidkit to curl up next to him with his tail. As she settled down, he began to groom her fur the wrong way, just in case she was still cold. "How do you like your clanmates so far?" He asked as he worked.

Rapidkit eagerly climbed right on top of her dad and plopped herself down so that she took up as much of his pelt as she possibly could... for 2 reasons:

1 was so that she could warm up. 2 was so that he could not get away now and go back to overworking himself so much. She smirked a bit to herself so happy that her plan of getting himself to take care of himself and her had worked.

"I like them lots!" she purred as he groomed up her fur.

"I got to meet and know Tallshadow! He told me all about the lands back home" she explained. "did you know he's my brother" she asked giggling at her 'joke' of sorts.

"I'm glad to hear that," Sootstorm purred, licking down the tufts at the top of her head that wouldn't stay down. He meant what he said; he had been worried that Tallshadow or Quickfrost may not have been as close to his second litter, but it seems that they were both adapting well to their new siblings and even spending time with them. "The land back home... the place where I was born, and still remains the most beautiful land I've ever known," the tom murmured, feeling his eyelids beginning to droop. The thought of home may his heart ache; how he missed the open, undisturbed slopes of the moor, the feeling of soft grass under your paws and the wind in your fur. The sweet scent of heather and morning dew that greeted you in the morning. The paradise that his kits had never known.
