“Hey, wait!” With a loud yelp, Goldenpaw scrambled after the disappearing tail-tip of one of her Clanmates; one who was going out of camp but looked young enough to, y’know, have some fun! She didn’t really know what the other she-cat’s name was (names were not her strong suit) but she was pretty sure it was something like… Fetcheckle. Or something like that. It sounded a lot like a constipated chicken to her, but then again, she’d never heard a constipated chicken.

The large apprentice skidded to a halt, grinning at the calico warrior. Thank the stars, Goldenpaw had started to actually fill out some, and her paws looked a little less ludicrously oversized when compared to the rest of her. She was well on her way to be the stockiest cat in WindClan, and definitely one of the tallest, and the calico warrior was short, so maybe, just maybe…

“Do you think you could spar with me? Pretty please? I’ll be good, promise!”

Tallpaw was out on a hunting patrol with his mentor, and Pantherpaw was nowhere to be seen (probably doing the same thing), and Nectarflow would hardly wanna spar anyways, so this random warrior was her best bet. There was nothing like a spar, really, to get her heart pounding and her blood pumping and let her just… stop thinking and do. There was no strategy; there was only instinct, and that was enough.

Finchspeckle was just making her way out of camp to stretch her legs after a tiring morning spent running all over the moor just to catch one hare. But of course, she wasn't allowed even a moment of peace. The dappled she-cat bit back her immediate response, something along the lines of "scram", and instead forced herself to smile. The golden apprentice was about the same height as her, though to her horror the apprentice seemed to still be growing. Whatever, it wasn't her fault that she had to inherit her mother's ridiculously short height. At least she still looked beautiful-- this apprentice would grow to look like a bear. Who could love a cat like that?

Well, since this apprentice was already cursed to look like a cream-coloured mole, she might as well entertain her. Finchspeckle made a show of sighing, then flashed a dazzling smile. "Well, if you're going to behave yourself..." She murmured, head tipped to the side as she regarded her fellow clanmate.

If it was at all possible, Goldenpaw’s grin spread even further across her face as the large apprentice bounced in place, ears pricked. “Thank you so much!” she chirped, shifting her weight from paw to paw. “I’ve already done all my apprentice duties for the day!”

Further proof of her good behavior, that, and real necessary, too. This warrior had a smile like splinters of ice, which was really cool, and she was a warrior. Extra cool points for that, of course. Maybe she could show her some cool tricks? She looked like the sort who would know cool tricks! With another bright grin, Goldenpaw prepared to follow her out onto the territory, already incredibly excited.

Finchspeckle turned and led the way out of camp, not even turning to check if the apprentice was keeping up. If the golden fool couldn't even navigate WindClan territory properly, she didn't want to spar with her. Finally, they reached a small flat area, and the warrior whipped around to face the younger she-cat. "Ready?" She asked, though she didn't wait for an answer before she was lunging forward.

There was nothing like running.

Goldenpaw might not have been built for running quite like the warrior was, but her height and the sheer joy in her chest helped her keep up as they sprinted across the open moor, wind whistling in her ears. At last, somecat that understood. The warriors who led her patrols were always stopping or slowing down, glancing over their shoulders to see if she had managed to keep up. This cat, though; she trusted Goldenpaw to keep up, trusted that she was capable and strong, and that meant a lot.

A quick “ready,” and then the spar began. She liked that too. No fanfare, straight to the meat of the matter.

The warrior flew straight at her, and, too slow to dodge, Goldenpaw went tumbling backwards, feeling the impact in her spine as her back collided with the dust. Already the other was trying to pin her down, but she wouldn’t let that happen. Twisting and snarling, the large apprentice used their combined momentum to end up on top of the older she-cat, limbs already strained from the effort of keeping the warrior down, of adjusting and readjusting to keep her from slipping from beneath her paws. Her heart pounding in her chest, she forced her paws downwards, eyes alight at the struggle. With a snarl, she pressed her whole weight down, uncaring of the aching along her spine. This was not a place to hold back; the other had shown her that, in the sparking pain in her shoulders. Good. She would return the favour.

Goldenpaw used Leap and Hold, dealing 5 (MR) damage and costing 15 stamina. Finchspeckle is pinned for two turns!

Finchspeckle resisted the urge to hiss as the bulky apprentice pinned her to the ground. Her fur was getting all dirty! She had spent ages making them shine like shells, and now all her hard work was ruined. Huffing, she attempted to twist her body and dislodge the apprentice's hold on her. Her legs kicked Goldenpaw's, and with a sharp twist she knocked the she-cat off her.

The older warrior twisted beneath her paws; with something between a yelp and a growl, she stumbled backwards, fur prickling. Taking advantage of the few seconds she had left before the older warrior fully regained her bearings, she surged forwards, bringing her large build to bear. Each strike had her entire body behind it, guided by some sort of savage primal instinct that guided her paws to connect with the warrior in just the right places to do the most damage, to wind and exhaust without lethality.

Goldenpaw used Front Paw Strike and Swift Strike, dealing 11 (6+5) damage and costing 17 (7+10) stamina.

Finchspeckle took the blows without flinching, returning with her own blows swiftly and precisely. She batted Goldenpaw's head into the dirt, then when the apprentice no longer fought back she let out a laugh. "Not bad, but you'll have to be way better to beat me," She mewed smugly.

Her jaw collided hard with the dirt, and Goldenpaw tasted blood where her sharp fangs met her tongue, wincing, shocked out of the battle-haze. Ears ringing, she fought the urge to slip away into sleep, clawing her way back to a clear-headed exhaustion, mind clearing just in time to hear the older she-cat’s words. Was that a challenge? Stars yes, she decided, blinking some of the dizziness from her eyes, that was a challenge. Slowly, carefully, paws trembling, she stood, carefully balanced, tail flicking, attempting to not fall over, ‘cause that’d be embarrassing.

“Thanks!” She mewed, tone upbeat despite the aching in her muscles and pain in her mouth. Was one of her teeth loose? Nah, that was just her imagination. “Yeah, I bet I’ll be as good as you are at fighting someday!”
