Fawnshine gingerly slipped the last couple of daisy leaves into the herb bundle, making sure to carefully secure them so no traveling herbs might accidentally slip out of place. Medicine cat duties came to her with ease as they always did, with plenty moons of experience and practiced skill adding to diligently crafted paws. Sometimes she wondered how she'd react to herself today; a comparison from then and now.

Things would be drastically different, of course—but this wasn't the appropriate time to reminisce on memories at the moment. She could do so later when allowed to, at the Moonstone. Shaking her head to bring herself back to reality, the she-cat slipped away from the familiar den filled with medicinal herbs and instead approached the apprentices' den.

"Rosepaw? Are you awake?" She mewed out softly, being sure not to accidentally stir the others awake. "It's time for your Moonstone journey." Once the apprentice had emerged, she gestured with her nose over to the herb bundle set at the entrance of the den, silently urging her to eat it. "They'll help calm your hunger and exhaustion along the way."

"Rule #1 is that you've gotta have fun!"

The small, dark-furred mound of bristled tufts shifted inside while her ears flicked away Fawnshine’s call. What partial consciousness she had was primarily made of the raw pain in her stomach striking across her body. Doing her best to ignore it, she lifted her head groggily to make sense of Fawnshine's voice. “What?” she yelled back at an inappropriate volume, giving little concern to those around her still snoozing. Rosepaw drew her paws over her face trying to rub out the exhaustion in her angry expression. She held back a moan as Fawnshine spoke again. Can’t this wait till laterrr?

The small molly left her semi-comfy nest and nice, dark den to join Fawnshine and her journey of torture. Was she at all in the mood to travel across the forest for hours upon hours? No. But did the promise of magical remedies for her hunger and poor sleep keep her more polite? Thankfully, yes. Rosepaw tried her best not to object to the horrid taste, but she couldn’t help shouting, “Blegh!” at the very least. She prayed to those silly stars that these bad flowers worked.

After shaking out her coat Rosepaw turned to the taller she-cat with a slightly desperate glare. “Can I get a bite to eat before we go? I’m starving!” she cried, perhaps a bit dramatically. Granting the apprentice her wishes maybe wasn't the clever thing to do during a famine, but stars was she just so hungry.

Fawnshine winced at the volume of which Rosepaw called, giving her a sharp stare in a reminder to keep quiet. She was sure she saw a tail lash or two, flicking in annoyance the same as the apprentice had. Shaking her head, she watched with amusement as Rosepaw grimaced at the bitter taste of the combined herbs, chuckling. "They may be bitter, but you'd much rather go with rather than without them during our journey, I promise."

Just before they exited the camp, she paused, noticing the evident exhaustion (though perhaps a bit too dramatically) plastered all over the young molly's face. Even in the face of such famine, it would be cruel (and uncharacteristic of a medicine cat's virtues, according to her) to neglect such desperate pleas. So with some reluctance and sympathy, Fawnshine nodded, gesturing towards the fresh-kill pile. "Pick out something small as a snack. Once you're finished, we can go. Just make sure to hurry."

The two eventually made their way in front of the Mothermouth, to which Fawnshine paused to instruct the young she-cat. "Inside the tunnel, it will be dark. Stay close and follow the tip of my tail, if not my scent in case you can't see it well." She spoke softly, making sure to receive a confirmation from her before leading them both through. At the end of the cave, she reached a bright, illuminating stone, which she gestured to Rosepaw to come close. "Press your nose to the Moonstone, and Starclan will do the rest. I'll be here when you wake up."

“Thank you,” she sighed in relief, rushing past Fawnshine to snatch the plumpest vole. Just a snack? Ughhh! Rosepaw took a large, fierce bite into the vole. Never mind, this is the best thing I’ve ever tasted. After swallowing the last bite, she already missed it.

She gazed up at Mothermouth with wide eyes. No cat in their right mind would wake so early and take such a painfully boring trip for nothing, right? Something amazing was awaiting her past these arches. The apprentice looked into the dark, endless tunnel excitedly. It was almost like an adventure. She turned as Fawnshine spoke, and nodded eagerly. “Okay! I’m ready!” she meowed.

Her pale gold eyes blinked harshly against the bright light. Eventually, she saw it in its full glory. The Moonstone. Its glittering surface reflected in her eyes and in her soul. She grinned ear to ear as the moment engulfed her with how special it felt. “I get to talk to Starclan,” she thought aloud. Rosepaw slowly approached the stone without Fawnshine’s instruction. The medicine cat’s words seemed to slip in and out of her ears like ice. “Okay,” she replied passively, more entranced by the crystal and its shine. Rosepaw gently closed her eyes and touched the tip of her chestnut nose to the Moonstone, ready to hear what important words the stars had to give her.

Originally a WindClanner and then ending up a kittypet, Kindle was spending time with her family among the stars. Her blue-grey pelt shimmered in the light as they all laid together on a moorland hill, and she let out a sigh of contentment. She'd lived an interesting life with many ups and downs, but now that they were all together life was good. No worries in the world, no battles, no fear or strife; just being together for the rest of eternity.

About to close her eyes and take a nap, she noticed a figure begin to appear in the distance. Focusing her gaze, she watched as the dark shape took form and it seemed to be an apprentice, or so she guessed. The young she-cat's mink pelt didn't shimmer with sparkling stars like those of deceased cats that had died and come to join the stars, which meant she was probably just visiting. Standing up and stretching out her paws in front of her, she gave her short pelt a shake which sent specks of stardust falling back onto the misty ground below. Well, since none of her family currently seemed too keen on greeting the cat, she supposed she'd go and say hello.

"Hey there," Kindle mewed as she made her way over to the stranger, her long legs gracefully stepping through the tall grass. "Here for your Moonstone journey?" she asked with a tilt of her head, slowing her pace and stopping in front of the molly.

Rosepaw stared wide-eyed at the gangly cat striding toward her. “Uh-” Everything felt weird in her head like she was just dreaming. “Yes,” she answered, shaking away the daze. The short she-cat looked the stranger up and down, finally noticing the glistening nature of their pelt. “Woah…” she muttered before quickly glancing down at her own fur. Dung, no stars. I guess that’s something only Starclan gets.

She looked back to Kindle, slowly realizing that she was seeing a dead cat. A ghost. She somewhat felt honored to speak to one, though it slightly creeped her out. Rosepaw opened her maw to introduce herself, but blurted a question instead– “Who are you?” Windclan, she had to assume, since that’s the type of body all Windclanners seemed to have. But why was a Windclan cat talking to her? Why not Thunderclan? Maybe she's a leader, Rosepaw thought excitedly.
