There were many kits ready to become apprentices, and so Poppyshine knew she could not put the ceremonies off any longer. Their warriors were going to be stretched a little thin, but in no time, they were going to have an abundance of warriors. She was rather excited to see all these kits reach the apprentice den…but one at a time.

She hopped up onto the Willow Branch and looked out at her clan. Poppyshine smiled and annoucned, “Let all cats old enough to catch their own fish gather for a Clan meeting!”

Pigeonkit

Pigeonkit was waiting for her ceremony. She was far from patient about it. A brief cold held her back farther than her siblings; probably her own obstinance and general recklessness, too. But she couldn't be held back forever! Every meeting that was called, she was quick to sprint away from whichever corner of camp she found herself in, and this one was no different. Pigeonkit abandoned her mossball quickly, racing right to the front of the crowd. Poppyshine on the Willow Branch meant this had to be an apprentice ceremony, so obviously, it had to be hers. Pigeonkit beamed up at the deputy, her smile stretched so wide it made her cheeks hurt.

Poppyshine had to fight the goofy smile that tried to form when she saw how brightly Pigeonkit was beaming up at her. She had not missed the way that she looked expectantly up at Poppyshine during every recent ceremony. She could not blame the young kit; Poppyshine could remember her own excitement when her six moons drew near. Thankfully for Pigeonkit, this was indeed her ceremony, and so Poppyshine gestured for her to come forth.

When Pigeonkit was situated, she began in earnest. “Pigeonkit, you have reached the age of six moons. It is now time for you to be apprenticed. From this day forward, until you receive your warrior name, you shall be known as Pigeonpaw.” Now who was to be this newly-named apprentice’s mentor? She knew that Pigeonpaw was a handful—she had heard about it from the queens when she came to visit from time to time—and given how most warriors had to deal with multiple apprentices already, she did not want to put even more work on her warriors’ shoulders. Therefore… “I shall be your mentor. I will teach you everything I know, and prepare you to be as great of a warrior as I know you can be.”

She stepped down from the branch and met Pigeonpaw. Poppyshine smiled down at her and leaned down to touch noses with her.
