Rowansong

It was already warm, bordering on uncomfortable, even though it was only a few hours past dawn. Rowansong huffed, cursing his pelt for once, but a brisk shake cleared his annoyance with the weather. If nothing else, it would be a good day to hunt— the air was filled with birdsong, and the water glittered with silvered scales. He spared a glance to either side, looking at the apprentices accompanying him— Sunpaw, who he knew as an acquaintance and liked well enough; and Larkpaw, his own apprentice. Things were not wholly better, but perhaps not as bad as they had started… though neither of the apprentices seemed happy to be together.

“Here is to good luck!” He clicked his tongue and returned his attention to the water, steadying himself against the stone until a flash of silver invited a quick strike into the cold waters.
