Subject: Cloudypaw's Moonstone Journey Tue 20 Jun 2023 - 21:53
It was a particularly wet morning, there was a threat of rain on the horizon and the clouds seemed to gather particularly heavy over Thunderclan's territory. Echopaw furrowed his brow as he shoved his fluffy head into the apprentice den, "Cloudypaw. Come." he meowed softly - though surely loud enough for the apprentice to hear him. Thrushnose and Mottlestar had alerted him it was time for Cloudypaw to journey to the Moonstone, it was an exciting day for Cloudypaw.
Echopaw dropped the bundle of traveling herbs at the feet of Cloudypaw as he flinched as a drop of rain landed square on his nose. He supposed it wasn't quite summer yet, some showers occurred here and there. It had been a few days since it had rained, he hoped no kits would catch cold because of the sudden rain. Perhaps he would have to stop and do a small herb hunt on the way home. "Hmm. Let's go, Starclan awaits." he hummed, promptly turning tail and exiting camp.
After a while of walking the medicine cat apprentice turned to Cloudypaw and looked into the tom's uninjured eye, "Are you nervous? Yes?" Echopaw inquired, he had tried to fix up Cloudypaw's eye as best as he could, but owl talons were nasty things and he could only do so much. His paws weren't magic anyhow.
Cloudypaw stirred awake by the call of his name. The white tom blinked at Echopaw with one blue eye. Today, he was going on his moonstone journey, which meant that... that the medicine cats had finished his treatment. But he still couldn't see through his left eye. That meant that he was- that he was half-blind now. Bitterness rose up in him as he swallowed the herbs and followed Echopaw mutely. His once beautiful white coat was stained with mud that he didn't bother washing off. It's not like anyone would be looking at his pelt, given how much of a horror his face was. It would be a miracle if they even looked at him at all.

As silence fell between them Echopaw found comfort in the journey itself, he gave CLoudypaw his space and didn't pressure him to speak but he occasionally would give the tom an encouraging flick with his tail, or flash him a small smile, "Almost there, yes." he meowed as they passed through Fourtrees, passed the Thunderpath and beyond.

By the time they reached Mothermouth the moon was at the highest in the sky and Echopaw was quite exhausted, his paws ached slightly and his stomach grumbled, "Ah we're here." he meowed to him softly, "Follow close behind me, you can bite my tail if you need to to guide you while we're in the caves." Echopaw offered, his gaze friendly. He didn't look at the apprentice with pity, only guilt. Guilt that he couldn't have done a better job - that he couldn't save the eye. Down, down, down they went. The caves grew cold under his paws and it seemed like the darkness would never end. Until - a blue light glowed on the walls of the cavern and the tunnel opened up into a room. In the center of the room lay a bright crystal, the moon shone through a hole in the ceiling, "Lay next to the stone and press your nose to it. Starclan will meet with you in your dreams. I'll be here when you wake up." he promised, urging the tom forward.
The darkness scared him. He already couldn't see through one eye, and now he couldn't see anything through either eye. Cloudypaw stumbled down the tunnel, his only comfort being Echopaw's tail brushing against his whiskers occasionally to guide the way. At long last, his sight was restored. Cloudypaw did as he was told and crouched down by the stone. It brought a little comfort to the tom knowing that Echopaw would be right by his side when he woke up. The tom pressed his nose to the Moonstone and closed his eyes.

A smile lit up the star-speckled calico's features as he watched Cloudypaw appear before his eyes. What had happened in the past few sunrises had shook the Starclan warrior, and now he was here to offer some form of comfort for the apprentice. Why must Clan cats suffer so much before they are even made a warrior? Reedshine signed, then motioned for Cloudypaw to sit. "My name is Reedshine. I was a Thunderclan warrior seasons ago, and it is my honor to be your Starclan cat. Is there anything, anything at all, that you wish to know?" He purred.
