A spring in her step and a purr rising in her throat, Blazefang scampered into the elders’ den. “Dayquill! Hey, guess what? It worked! We’re having more kits!” she practically squealed. “I can’t wait to see them…” Blazefang trailed off as a thought hit her. “You… you’ll never see them. Right. Sorry for the bad wording.”

Dayquill
The elder’s den was quiet for the moment, and with the midday heat mostly beat back by its walls, it was comfortable– enough so that Dayquill drifted off where he lay waiting for his mate’s return. Though he’d started to doze, the sound of pawsteps hurrying toward the den made his ears twitch to attention. Blazefang’s scent grew on the air, too, strengthening in time with the coming approach. Shaking his head to clear the thin veil of grogginess, Dayquill angled his head up to preempt the arrival, an easy smile already present when she hurried inside.
His smile dropped for a second, jaw slackened by the news, but it returned quickly as the words set in. Dayquill quickly sat upright, leaning slowly forward until he felt Blazefang’s frame against him. When he did, he relaxed his weight against her. “Yeah… but that’s okay,” Dayquill murmured warmly. It did make his throat sting, but he pushed the bitterness down to make a matching purr rise in its place. “They’ll be here, yeah? And so will we, and- and I’m pretty sure that’s enough for me. They’ll be perfect, whether or not I can see them.”
