Tawnyshadow waited patiently at the camp entrance for a certain apprentice to join her. Since Honeylight was not able to take Silverpaw out for the day, she had been tasked with reviewing the tom's battle skills. Since her own apprentice, Beetlepaw, was not ready for a spar, it looks like they would have to go looking for a predator.
Once Silverpaw was ready, Tawnyshadow flicked her tail and exited the camp. "Scent the air," She instructed, "Can you scent anything?" That shouldn't be a problem, considering that the pine grove was filled with creatures.

Silverpaw was looking forward to this outing with Tawnyshadow. He always enjoyed talking to someone for the first time, liked just getting to know people. And since the only memory he had of Tawnyshadow was one quickly and decisively buried… he wanted to have a new one of her. She seemed alright, and besides, he’d heard this was going to be battle training. That’d been his favorite so far.
They were quiet walking to the Pine Grove, save for Silverpaw’s periodic grumbling about the mud or chatter over something new he’d seen, but as the ground dried and the trees thickened around them, Tawnyshadow spoke. Silverpaw flicked an ear, blinking up at her for a moment before closing his eyes and pulling in a deep breath. “There are more rodents here than there are where its wetter,” he offered after a moment. The clearing was rich with the smell of prey. Other scents he didn’t recognize made him stall, but Silverpaw quietly shrugged it off and turned to look at Tawnyshadow. “This is a good place for hunting, isn’t it? ...Do predators come here often? If we're hunting then they must be too, right?”

"Very good," Tawnyshadow approved as Silverpaw correctly detected the many scents around them. "Yes, many predators are found here. For today, we'll find a land opponent; I don't think you have learnt how to deal with a flying opponent," She continued, tasting the air for scents. Fox... normally she would take another warrior with her if she wanted to tackle such a strong beast. If Silverpaw got into trouble, she didn't think she could make much of a difference. But then this scent carried with it blood; the fox must already be injured.
Just as she was thinking about whether to approach it, a ginger muzzle appeared from behind a tree, followed by a head and then a flame-coloured body. Beetle-like eyes landed on the two cats, and the fox snarled. "Ah, seems like our target has found us," Tawnyshadow murmured half to herself, then addressed Silverpaw, "I will attack alongside you. Try not to get hurt."
With that said, Tawnyshadow hissed and launched herself onto the fox, throwing it off-balance and drawing blood. Hopefully this battle would be over without much injury. Tawnyshadow used Jumping Strike, dealing 8(+3+1)dmg and -7SP

Tawnyshadow’s praise made Silverpaw’s pelt warm, a proud grin stretching across his muzzle. She went on, and he flicked an ear at her curious phrasing. The bridge of his muzzle wrinkled in thought. They weren’t… hunting predators, were they? His ears turned backwards. As much as he enjoyed it, he wasn’t good at sparring– yet. And that was sparring. Silverpaw looked towards Tawnyshadow to see if she meant it, but his eyes were already burning and his jaw was set. He wasn't going to run if they were.
The stench of blood filled the air as a red shape pooled from the darkness. Silverpaw met the fox’s glare, steeled despite his heart’s sudden racing. Tawnyshadow’s words gave him little confidence, but she shot towards the fox before he could even think to argue. Silverpaw stared, watching the wrestling with heavy limbs before shaking his head. Nothing bad would happen to him here. Tawnyshadow wouldn't let it. StarClan wouldn't let it, right? That idea soothed him, somewhat.
Without letting himself stall any longer, Silverpaw lurched forward to join the fight. He didn’t have a plan when he lunged for the fox, but when its thick tail lashed in rage from Tawnyshadow’s assault, he found a use for himself. He ducked forward to sink his teeth into its tail, jaw clasping into place just as his paws lost purchase over the slick grass. He slid, but he drew the fox with him, earning a shrill yelp of pain as he tugged it back.
Silverpaw used Tail Yank, dealing 8 (7+1) damage and costing 15 SP! Fox is STUNNED for one turn.

The fox shrieked as claws and teeth dug into it's fur. It's paws slipped on the slippery needle-covered ground as the smaller cat yanked it's tail, causing it to fall and hit it's chin on the floor. The fox is stunned

Tawnyshadow glanced over as Silverpaw yanked it's tail out from under the fox. "Very good," She approved. Seems the apprentice did have some brains; enough to know that when fighting such a large enemy, stunning it would be a good choice. Turning her attention back to the fox, Tawnyshadow reared and slammed her front paws down on its head. Tawnyshadow used Front Paw Strike, dealing 8(+1)dmg and -7SP

Much to his surprise, the little slip did some good– more good than he planned. With a yelp, the fox’s head met the ground. Silverpaw, ignoring the way adrenaline made his chest heave, made sure he was quick to scramble back to his paws. Tawnyshadow’s voice made him chance a look away from the beast, briefly meeting her eyes. “Thank you,” he murmured, eyes starting to glow with pride. His attention stayed on her until she brought her claws down on the fox’s head. It didn’t move to challenge her blow, too rattled by the consequential blow to its head.
Sure not to loose his footing again, Silverpaw moved in again. This time, he raised a foreleg so he could rake claws across its flank. He could feel its fur and flesh give way, feel its blood rising to fill the marks he left while it made another shrill noise of pain. Silverpaw shook his paw vigorously, releasing loose strands of russet fur from between his claws. It didn’t shake the strange feeling that crept through his leg, a tingling echo of the strike, even as ducked away from its side.
Silverpaw used Front Paw Strike, dealing 7 (6+1) damage and costing 7 SP.

The cats continued their brutal assault. The fox got to it's paws, and lunged towards the she-cat. It's teeth clamped down, expecting to find flesh. Fox used Iron Bite, dealing 17dmg and -30SP

The fox lunged towards her, and Tawnyshadow rolled away just in time to avoid the predator's fangs. The fox was badly injured, and it wouldn't be long before the fight was over. Her claws flashed out to score the fox's flank. Tawnyshadow used Dodge and Fight, dealing 5(+1) dmg and -7SP

Despite the wounds it received so far, the fox was determined to fight against them. Silverpaw’s ears flattened watching it lunge for Tawnyshadow, but she moved expertly out of the way. She even whipped around, rewarding its failed attack with another tear through its coat. Bleeding, panting, and shaking, the fox stood its ground. The strangest feeling of admiration burned in Silverpaw’s chest. Just under it, concern. Are we going to kill it? Pale eyes looked searchingly toward Tawnyshadow, but there wasn’t time to ask. Bracing himself, Silverpaw threw himself forward just as the fox started to rise up, ready to leap at either of them. For just a second, its belly was on display, and on instinct the apprentice lashed out, claws tearing through its stomach. The noise it made over the blow rang in Silverpaw's ears, and the blood that got on him from it was burning against his fur.
Silverpaw is attempting Belly Rake... attempt successful. Dealt 11 (10+1) damage and cost 25 SP.

The fox snarled as claws dug into its flank, then into its belly. The cats were ruthless, clawing and biting it at every opening. But it couldn't give up. Howling, the fox lunged again at the she-cat, clamping its jaws down on her leg. Fox used Iron Bite, dealing 17dmg and -30SP

Tawnyshadow hissed as fangs sank into her flesh. Raising her claws, she batted mercilessly at the fox, ripping out tufts of red fur until the fangs slankened and the creature fell to it's side. Tawnyshadow used Front Paw Strike, dealing 8(+1)dmg and -7SP

Kicking the corpse off her, Tawnyshadow turned to address Silverpaw. "Well done, you've fought well today. I will report this to Honeylight. For now, let's get back to camp," She summerised briefly, then turned and led the way back to camp. Her leg burned, but it wouldn't do to show weakness in front of such a young member of the clan.
