Huffing a breath, Birdstar decided it was time to leave her patch of sunlight and rolled up onto her paws. She’d caught some cold, brief and harmless and already gone, but it’d left her weary. As much as she wanted to doze off again, there was something important she’d meant to do today. With one last yawn, she made her way over to the Tallbranch and leaped atop it, where she called out, “Let all cats old enough to climb the trees gather below the Tallbranch for a Clan meeting!”
Lionpaw heard Birdstar's call and answered quickly. He scooted by a few other clanmates to get a spot that made sense to him, with the smaller cats in front and the... very few larger cats behind him. Lionpaw sat and waited patiently, hoping this news was good. He'd had enough of tension lately.
Birdstar kept her eyes on Lionpaw when he found a place for himself among the crowd. When the general chatter quieted, she flicked her tail to beckon him, calling down, “Lionpaw, step forward,” as she did so. Lionpaw was noble and smart; he would make a good warrior shortly. Once he’d taken his place, Birdstar moved on with the ceremony. “StarClan, I call upon you to look down on this apprentice. He’s trained hard to understand the ways of your noble code, and I commend him to you as a warrior in turn. Lionpaw, do you promise to uphold the Warrior Code, to protect and defend your Clan, even at the cost of your life?”
Lionpaw stepped forward as he was bid, realization suddenly spreading across his face. It was time... he'd done it! He had proven his worth to his clan. He glanced up briefly at the sky, hoping his parents were watching and were proud of him too.
"I do." He proclaimed proudly when Birdstar finished speaking. The ceremony words... he'd finally heard them for himself. His head was high, his shoulders were back and his tail stood straight up. He was ready to hear his warrior name. He was ready to carry out warrior duties.
Proud as ever, Lionpaw took his place at the front of the crowd, his answer clear and strong. Birdstar was grinning when she dipped her head. She hardly knew Lionpaw well, but he was a good cat. “Then I grant you your new name as a warrior. From this day on, you will be known to all as Lionstripe. SkyClan honors your vigilance and courage.” With another nod, Birdstar left the Tallbranch and padded over to the new warrior. She didn’t have to bend at all to press her nose to his head, instead just stretching forward slightly. “You’ll be a good warrior, Lionstripe. I hope your vigil is fast.” She offered him a kind smile before backing away to join the crowd in cheering.
