Honeypaw inched forward. The grass was pleasantly moist, and the earth was soft. He raised his head and sniffed. Instantly he caught the scent of fish, but he shook his head: he wasn't here to hunt. She sat up and looked around, hoping to find Poppyshine.

Poppyshine had taken a well-deserved few hours of rest after Perchstar returned. She was never gone for long, since the clan still needed her to run a lot of things while Perchstar took care of her kits. But she could not be hypocritical in ignoring her needs. So, she had gone out to just take a walk and enjoy the nature around her.
That is, until she scented another cat in the air. She paused in her walk and turned over her shoulder. It was no enemy cat, instead smelling like her clan, so she was not nervous. Poppyshine called out a gentle, “Hello?” Her eyes then landed on the head of a cat just near some foliage, and she smiled. “Oh, Honeypaw! What are you doing out here?”

Honeypaw looked up at the sky, but she turned and looked at Poppyshine when she spoke to her. Seeing her, she purred and moved closer. "I just wanted to get some fresh air" she sat up and looked closely at the she-cat.

Poppyshine smiled at the apprentice and nodded.“I understand. It can be nice to get out—and I’m sure you’re enjoying the extra freedom of being an apprentice now.” She walked over to her to meet her halfway. “I hope that your training has been going well. It may be unprecedented, but what do you say to a little spar? I’d love to test and see how much you’ve learned.” She smiled reassuringly. “Don’t worry, this isn’t a test for anything important.”

Poppyshine only continued to smile when she saw Honeypaw’s nerves. Poor thing looked so anxious, it reminded Poppyshine of her daughter. She gestured for Honeypaw to follow and she brought her to a clearing with sturdier ground so they would not go slipping any which way. “We’ll start here.” She turned towards Honeypaw and crouched a little to prepare. “No, no claws of course, but come at me with everything you’d got.” Her tail swished playfully in the air.
