Silverkit
Iceheart was getting closer and closer to her kits being born. It was exciting as it was… inconvenient, really. And a bit intrusive. Silverkit had warmed up to the concept quick enough, and he was truly excited to see them when they came. That said, new life apparently required a lot of preparatory work. It was claustrophobic, having Burdockroot visit more routinely, and whatever cats deemed it necessary to check on Iceheart. The nursery had been fairly empty for most of his life, and when present company was only focused on celebrating the soon-to-come litter instead of not stepping on his tail, Silverkit found he wasn’t entirely fond. Meadowlark didn’t seem to notice when he ducked between the legs of taller cats to disappear outside of the den.
Outside, he let out a breath and raised his eyes to search the faces in camp. He didn’t see Cinderpaw… not Nightstar either, or Honeylight. Silverkit’s ears folded back. He realized, suddenly, he didn’t have any friends– not ones that were available, at least. His tail wound back and forth, curling in on itself as it snaked behind him.
Eventually, his eyes found a familiar… ish, pelt. Silverkit had yet to speak with him, similar to Honeylight, but he knew who the tom was. Puffing out his chest, Silverkit lifted his chin and padded briskly over. “Forestbreeze!” He called cheerily, grinning up once he had the warrior’s attention. “Hi. Are you busy? It’s too crowded in the nursery now, and I’m bored. You remember me, right? Silverkit.”
❖ Forestbreezewas growing more anxious but excited as Iceheart's due date closed in. He tried to be as attentive and caring as he could be while Iceheart rested in the nursery. She had moved into the den not too long ago. Her presence in the warrior's den was missed by Forest greatly—he was used to pressing against her at night since their nests were right next to each other. Now, he had to settle on waking up early, finishing his duties, and hurrying to the brown-and-white furred molly's side the second he was free. If she needed her space then he gladly gave it to her, he didn't want to be smothering either. He's got a routine going now and secretly, he was going to miss this semblance of normality once it was over. However, he was sure that once their bundles of joy were born, he wouldn't be yearning for normality. They would probably have a pawful of a litter so there would be no time to think about anything else. Honestly, he was more than fine with that. He preferred that, even. ღ
❖ Heshook away his thoughts when the grey-and-white tom reentered the camp with two mice and a lizard dangling from his jaws. He sped up his pace and deposited them on the prey pile. He straightened up and sighed through his nose. Hunting was done for now. What else did he have to do? He pondered for a moment before a voice broke through his musings. "Forestbreeze!" He spun around toward the direction of the nursery. Was something wrong? He scanned the area before his eyes landed on a small figure nearby. He relaxed and blinked down at the young bi-colored kitten. He padded over to him as the kit spoke. Silverkit? His amber eyes lit up. Ah! He did indeed remember him! "Silverkit," he rumbled as he returned the grin. "I do remember you. You've gotten bigger since the last time I saw you," he purred as he appraised the kit. He settled down in front of the kit, paws stretched in front of him. Even in this position, he was still quite a bit larger than Silverkit. "Well, you can hang out with me for a while since I'm not very busy at the moment." His whiskers twitched in amusement. He wasn't lying; He had some time to spare. ღ
❖ Thesenior warrior eyed him for a moment. "How many moons old are you? Is your apprentice ceremony approaching?" Apprentice ceremonies were always an exciting topic for most kits. He had been a bit nervous when his own ceremony had been fast approaching but that was just him. Even today, he had still maintained a little bit of that nervous energy. A flicker of sadness burned at his chest when he remembered his late mentor, Ratrunner. The dark-furred warrior had been slain before him during the Gathering when the Dark Forest cats had appeared. That memory still chilled him to this day. He had fallen gravely ill not long after that and he had fallen very behind on his training. Time passed and the fox-hearted cats had been defeated. He quickly shoved those images away. He didn't want to spoil the good mood. ღ
