❖ Slowlyarising from her nest, Brookstone squinted as she took in the sight that met her late at night in the warrior's den. An unreadable expression flickered across the striped molly's face before she quietly got up onto her paws. She sighed through her nose as she silently padded out, careful to not jostle any of her denmates. It was to be another night with minimal sleep it seems—not that it was any different from any of the previous nights. She just couldn't sleep anymore; Not after witnessing the bodies of Minksplash and Sootspirit being brought back into camp. She had almost refused to believe that they were truly gone but mourning over their cold bodies alongside her clanmates, things became all the more real. The sight would haunt her nightmares for moons to come. So, to prevent the memory from mercilessly searing itself onto her head each and every night, Brook refrained from sleeping too long. Instead, she took to observing the stars. Her little fishies were there and looking brought her a sense of peace. ღ
❖ Takinga last glance back to the den, the tabby warrior's expression saddened further. It wasn't fair to Sprucebark or Rowansong; Not to Stormdance or her dear Sandyshell. It was especially unfair to Poppyshine. She should be someone who could offer them respite, even for a moment but here she was wallowing by herself in the dead of night. She wanted—no, needed to be stronger. She needed to get her act together... at least, that was her plan. She just didn't know how or when to start... ღ
❖ Ploppingherself down in front of the camp's entrance, the brown-and-white she-cat scanned Silverpelt with tired eyes. It had been hard for her to move on. However, she should have been able to by now, for the sake of the clan. They needed her; They needed their senior warriors, especially now that Perchstar was missing. Poppyshine had seemed to have bounced back and she had been their mother! So, why couldn't she? She was sure that her little fishies could see her right then. What would they say to her? Seeing what state she was in, they would've probably tried to shake her back to her senses, or, at least, a variation of that. The warrior cracked a bitter smile. Starclan, why was it so hard? ღ

Stormdance slept restlessly. Light sleep marked by intense dreams has been a constant in his life since he was a kit, something that came and went as he was more or less stressed. With the loss of Sootspirit and Minksplash, something that weighed heavy on his heart, it was no surprise that his dreams made a reappearance.
He woke with a slight start and a short intake of breath, blinking rapidly into the darkness for a long moment. He wasn’t sure what woke him up, until he registered the lack of warmth in the nest next to his. He turned his head, and saw Brookstone’s empty nest, and then turned again and just caught sight of her tail flitting out of the den. His heart squeezed in his chest. It seemed he was not the only one who could not sleep well.
Stormdance pulled himself to his feet, drawing in a deep breath and shaking out his fur. He moved carefully, not wanting to wake the other warriors still sleeping as peacefully as they could. Still, it wasn’t long before he pushed past the entrance of the den and followed Brookstone’s scent out to just beyond the entrance of camp. Stormdance’s eyes landed on her, on the tense line of her shoulders and her tired eyes. Stars, he wished he could make any of this better for her, but he felt the grief too. At the very least, she should know she wasn’t alone in it.
Stormdance reached her side and pressed against her, providing warmth from the chilly nighttime air. “Can’t sleep?” He asked, his own voice low and still hoarse from sleep. He settled down at her side, and instinctively rested his tail around his best friend, hoping to provide any tiny scrap of comfort.
❖ Sheonly stiffened subconsciously when she felt someone press against her side, mind wandering too far to truly register what was happening around her. She blinked herself back to awareness as she slowly looked to the side. Stormdance. A sudden warmth flooded her—and she wasn't talking about externally. He was such a selfless and loving tom; he was one of a kind. Her blue eyes softened and she snuggled closer to his side unabashedly. "Can't sleep?" Her smile crinkled into more of a grimace. "You could say that," she grunted with a troubled look. "For a while since..." She finished with a hum. That was all she said after. That was all she needed to say. He knew exactly what she was talking about. ღ
❖ Sighingsoftly, she pressed her cheek to his shoulder. Her eyes remained trained on the sky as if she was trying to pry the answers to her burning questions from them. "You? Is it the same?" she questioned, voice barely above a whisper. She intertwined their tails. "I can't-" move on. "I'm trying-" but nothing's working. A small scowl formed on her face. She shouldn't be this weak. This wasn't like her. She couldn't let herself remain this beaten down. What was the difference this time? Why was it so hard? ღ
