Flutterpetal shook out his pelt against the brisk early morning wind as he walked along the moors. As always, he was glad to be with Adderdawn--any time he could go out into the territory with his brother, especially on an official patrol, he was happy. Today though, they were with Owlshade. He couldn't recall ever having spoken much with the other tom before. However, he was sure he was probably nice. The black-furred tom didn't expend much energy thinking about it. He was mostly just focused on the quiet lull of the fields around him, ears pricked as he looked for hares, and occasionally glancing over to give his brother a smile.

Soon enough, a flash of fur between long grass caught his attention. He offered a nod to his patrolmates before splitting away, eyes narrowing into a low focus. He'd hunted enough that it was nearly second nature to him now, though that didn't stop him from getting a bit nervous when he knew that anyone else could be watching him. Carefully, Flutterpetal positioned himself downwind of the target and stalked forward. Once he was close enough, he broke into a sprint. By the time the hare had noticed him, it was too late. His paws landed squarely on its neck, ending its life quickly. Thank the stars. He took the fresh-kill back in his jaws to Adderdawn and Owlshade. "Got 'im!"

Patrols with cats he hardly knew was routine for Owlshade. He was a member of WindClan, had been born there, and spent every minute of his life outside the imprisonment by the twolegs, somewhere on this moor. But he still never felt like he truly fit in. It wasn't that the other WindClanners treated him differently - they didn't, and never had. But some internal strife had always been there, telling him he didn't belong.

Regardless, this patrol seemed normal. He knew Flutterpetal and Adderdawn as capable young warriors, and it seemed that hadn't changed in his absence as he watched Flutterpetal move off after a rabbit, chasing it down and ending it quickly. Owlshade nodded his approval, flicking his pale gaze off to the right. A solitary young rabbit was looking for seeds in the grass, not far out on the moor. Owlshade waved his tail and moved off, slinking through the tall grasses until he was close enough to launch himself from the depths of the foliage.

From the corner of his eye, he saw the blur at the last possible second. A streak of mottled brown, almost invisible against the Leafbare-dull grasses... unlike Owlshade, whose stark white pelt was a glowing beacon for anything taller than the grass. This dog that bore down on him now was definitely taller than the grass, and malice shone in its gleaming yellow eyes. Owlshade had just enough time to brace himself for the impact before the beast was upon him, but in its fervor to maul the tom, it overshot, jaws snapping empty air as it passed overtop him. A paw caught Owlshade in the gut, and sent him tumbling a tail-length only to stagger to his paws as the dog slowed and circled back, ears against its head, lips rising to reveal white teeth on a backdrop of black gums.

Owlshade flattened his own ears, brow furrowed, nearly plastered to the ground his crouch was so low. Every fiber in his being was telling him to go, run - we can get away, that's what we're good at. But he wouldn't leave the others behind, and if he broke off, the dog would surely turn back for them. Besides, if they left the dog unchallenged, the next patrol it happened upon could have apprentices.


Owlshade attempted to catch a rabbit... and rolled a predator instead.

Flutterpetal smiled at Adderdawn's praise, opening his mouth to respond and offer good luck on the next hunting attempt. However, his brother's eyes narrowed, and ears flicked to the side at hearing a loud noise. Flutterpetal turned, following his gaze, to see an enormous figure bearing down on Owlshade. Was that... a dog? He'd never seen one before. It was huge! Where had it come from? What was it doing here? His heart sank. However, before he could suggest to Adder that they go back for help, the other tom had already bolted towards danger, obviously determined to assist their Clanmate. "Adder--!" It was too late. He was gone. There was no way that the two of them could fight the dog off on their own. Trying to ignore the way that his paws began to shake with fear, Flutterpetal charged after his brother, following his lead. He flanked the dog's side, unsheathing claws with a few quick swipes. Hopefully they could convince it to leave.... This was scarier than the birds he'd fought before.

Flutterpetal used Front Paw Strike and Swift Strike, dealing 17 (10+7) damage and costing 17 (7+10) stamina.
