It was time once more for Poppyshine to ascend the Willow Branch. She was glad that some kits were moving out of the nursery. There were still a few stubborn kits who had reached the appropriate age, but were holding out for the return of their family…Poppyshine could not exactly blame them.

As she reached the branch, she called out, ”Let all cats old enough to catch their own fish gather for a Clan meeting.”

Toadkit nearly fell flat on his face as he clambered up the Willow Branch. Poppyshine was always sweet and kind, his clanmates usually kind and welcoming, save the kits in the nursery, yet the black tom found himself seconds from doubling over right where he stood. He had spent a lot of time thinking about this day, what he would do and what he would say— nothing, apparently. Toadkit couldn’t gain the courage to do anything.

Poppyshine bit back a smile at the poor kit’s tumble. She cleared her throat and allowed him to sit up and make himself more presentable. She smiled and meowed, “Toadkit, you have reached the age of six moons. It is now time for you to be apprenticed. From this day forward, until you receive your warrior name, you shall be known as Toadpaw.” Her eyes looked back to the gathered crowd of her clan until she saw the cat in question she was looking for. “Your mentor will be Reedtail. May he teach you all you need to become a great warrior.”

❖ Brookstone quietly chuckled at the scene the apprentice-to-be was making, evident fondness twinkling in her eyes. Today, it was Toadkit's time to shine. He was quite the eager kit. It was endearing to see; It was refreshing to see. Slowly but surely the clan was growing in numbers once more. The warrior was looking forward to seeing what this new generation brought to the clan as they grew and prospered. ღ

❖ As the ceremony began, she thought back to her own apprentice ceremony. Oh geez. How long ago was that? She wasn't even that old (she was as youthful and energetic as ever, thank you very much!) and it still felt like she's lived a lifetime and a half! Where has the time gone? ღ

❖ The tabby molly smiled as the newly-made apprentice's mentor was revealed, Reedtail. She didn't know much about the younger tom but from what she's noticed, he was a big fan of working. Like, she rarely sees him take a breather. He was also quite neat too. Overall, a good tom and warrior. He'd make a good mentor she believed. "Toadpaw! Toadpaw!" she chanted as the ceremony finished up. Another day, another apprentice to add to Riverclan's ranks. It was a good day. ღ
