Poppyshine
How long had it been since Poppyshine had conducted a ceremony? She almost couldn’t remember. There had not been any kits ready to earn their warrior name in many moons now, and before that, she had been ill and unable to conduct ceremonies. As she ascended the Willow Branch, she wracked her brain to try and remember…Ah. Yes. It had been Irispaw’s ceremony…Poppyshine’s last apprentice, who had disappeared like so many other cats. Her stomach turned and Poppyshine shook her head free of the thoughts.
She raised her chin and called to her clan, “Let all cats old enough to catch their own fish gather for a Clan meeting.” There was something comforting in the words, which she had not spoken in moons now. Despite the turmoil the clan was in, at least some things were still even and consistent.
Hearing that call of Poppyshine, the warrior languidly made her way over, a bright smile on her face as she found a seat amongst the other gathered cats. She also was trying to remember the last time she had attended a ceremony and couldn't remember. Stars..for a 13 moon-old warrior she felt like she had the memory of an elder. Fawneye shook her head giving a small giggle as she imagined herself with graying fur and creaking bones.

Deep breath in, deep breath out, Darkkit told himself, trying to quell the nervous swirling in his stomach. I'm about to be one paw step closer to being a warrior. He had groomed his dark bengal coat until it shined, and had run every possibility of how the ceremony would go since he'd learned he'd be an apprentice today.It'll go fine. I'll get a great mentor, and I'll be a great apprentice. Darkkit truly hated waiting for the rest of RiverClan to gather at Poppyshine's words, but he forced himself to sit still and at least appear like he was being patient.
When enough cats had gathered, Poppyshine looked to Darkkit who was waiting with barely-contained patience. She nodded to him to step forward. “Darkkit, you have reached the age of six moons. It is now time for you to be apprenticed.” She offered the kit a smile. “From this day forward, until you receive your warrior name, you shall be known as Darkpaw. Your mentor will be Fawneye. May she teach you everything that she knows." Poppyshine looked to the warrior in question and gave her a smile too. Riverclan was growing, steadily, despite setbacks…Hopefully it would continue to grow, and those that had been taken will be able to return as well.
❖ It'sbeen quite a long time since Brookstone had seen an apprentice ceremony. Riverclan had been lacking kits up until recently. The molly was excited to see this new group of little fishies grow up. A pang of sadness struck her chest as she remembered all those who were currently missing that wouldn't be able to see this ceremony. Her blue eyes drifted up to Poppyshine and the sadness grew even more. The deputy had lost so much of her family already. She hoped all those that were taken would return soon for everyone's sake... for Poppy's sake... Brook shook away all her thoughts. She didn't want to sullen the mood. It was a very special day, after all. ღ
❖ Darkkitwas the cat of honor for today. The brown-and-white warrior watched the dark-furred youth groom himself to a presentable state before taking his place. Moons of experience made her efficient in reading others. Darkkit seemed to be a bit anxious despite his attempt to hide it. Her attention was pulled away as the ceremony began. She wondered who the tom's mentor will be. ღ
❖ "Darkpaw!Darkpaw!" she chanted out alongside the clan as the ceremony concluded. Fawneye had been the warrior chosen as Darkpaw's mentor. She was on the younger side and kept to herself but seemed reliable and bright. They would both be a good mentor-apprentice duo. ღ

She didn't hide her surprise or her excitement as her name was called. Her? Given an apprentice? Well if Poppyshine was sure..The ragdoll didn't hesitate to prance up to the young tom, looking down at him with a bright smile, "Hello, I'm Fawneye. Nice to meet'cha! Go ahead and make yourself a nest in the apprentice den, then tomorrow we can try some fishing or swimming, or whatever you want! Something super fun, that's for sure." she purred, "Oh right.." Fawneye added, rolling her eyes and giving a soft giggle as she leaned down to touch noses with Darkpaw. How could she forget to touch noses?? That was like the most important part of the ceremony-duh.

Darkpaw closed his eyes, relishing at the sound of his new name. He was equally happy when his new mentor practically pranced over to him. Fawneye seemed a little...well, maybe a little less serious than Darkpaw expected from a mentor. But maybe that's alright, he told himself. He knew that Fawneye was a formidable warrior, and that she cared deeply about RiverClan. And he trusted Poppyshine to only choose the best cat for the job. Looks like that's Fawneye, Darkpaw thought, reaching out to touch noses with her. More than anything, Darkpaw was ready to show his new mentor and the rest of RiverClan what he was made of.
