Dayquill
The sky was still dark, not yet brightened by the morning sun. Dayquill was already awake, despite the time left until dawn– part of it was nerves and restless thinking ruining his sleep, but mostly it had been intentional. The earliest hours of morning and the deepest hours of night seemed to be when the twolegs were the most quiet. Even if it was earlier than a young cat might have been used to, he wanted to give Sagepaw a chance to see some of the territory and maybe learn some rudimentary hunting before they were bothered by stomping giants. Blinking grogginess out of his eyes, Dayquill padded towards the makeshift apprentices' den, picking his way over to Sagepaw to bend down and gently nudge her shoulder. "Hey, kit. Sorry that it's early, but– first day of training! Exciting, right? I'll be right over there when you're, y'know, all the way awake." Gesturing with his tail, Dayquill nodded and shuffled back to wait where he'd directed.
Luckily for Dayquill, a touch was the quickest way to get Sagepaw up and about in the morning. The fluffy she-cat snapped awake and practically bounced out of her nest. Yawning and stretching (rather loudly), she got her paws under her and dashed to Dayquill’s side. “All right! What are we doing?” she chirped, gaze directed more or less at Dayquill’s shoulder.

Dayquill
Sagepaw was quick to bounce awake, hopping over with far more energy than most cats had in the morning. With a gentle smile, Dayquill waved his tail to beckon her along and lead them away from the sandy hollow, out into the forest proper. It was rare that he got the chance to venture into the territory before daybreak– it looked so different now, trees wrapped in darkness with only faint touches of gold painting their crowns, frost collecting on their bark and the grass underpaw. But as fascinating as it was, the dim light made him all the more aware of the traps scattered around the territory. Without looking back at Sagepaw, he quietly answered, "Mostly just exploring today. Want you to get a, uh, a feel for your territory, right? But if you want to, we can try some hunting too. Just," Dayquill's steps slowed a bit, and he turned his attention seriously toward the apprentice with him, "if we try hunting, just– make sure you be careful and stay close, yeah? It's dangerous, after the twolegs showed up."
