Echopaw since coming to the Big Trees...no... Fourtrees, yes, he had restored part of his old rock collection. He was out on the edge of Thunderclan territory, close to Fourtrees when he had found the last rock he needed! It was almost like the one he had originally given Acornkit, well, Acornpaw now. "Perfect!" he mused to himself. He had found a rock for Acornpaw, now he just needed to find his aunt a few flowers and he was good to head back to Fourtrees.
"Big flowers, yellow flowers. Small flowers." Echopaw muttered as he padded confidently across the forest floor. He was warned about the Two-legs of course, but he could care less. He figured if they didn't want him when he was a baby then they wouldn't care about him now. He located what he had been searching for, amongst a small patch of grass were a few daisies. He didn't know what kind of flowers they were, but he thought they looked pretty, which was good enough for him. He took the daisies between his jaws and smiled. Ta-da!
Suddenly his ears pricked up and he instinctually dropped to his best hunting crouch. There! His crystal blue eyes trained in on a small squirrel scuffling amongst the brush. How the squirrel hadn't heard him talking to himself was beyond his knowledge. Momentarily abandoning his flowers and the rock he had found he shot after the squirrel. The tom, not watching where he was putting his paws, tripped over his own feet and rolled a few times before coming to a stop. His once white/grey fur was now covered in dirt and leaves.
"Mouse-dung!" he cried as he watched the squirrel escape, waving its tail as if it were mocking him. He shook out his pelt and returned to his flowers and rock, "This is quite good enough." he mewed soothing himself as he reached the entrance to Fourtrees. He hadn't exactly gone to visit his aunt quite yet. She was so busy! There were so many cats that needed help after the Great Shake, including his mom. Now that a few days had passed and things were more settled he felt much more comfortable going to see what she was up to.
"Fawwnnnnshineee?" he called out as he made his way over to where the Thunderclan medicine cat had made her makeshift den.

The time being at Fourtrees had some effect on her, though Fawnshine wouldn't let much show. Comfreyheart had been treated, as well as the life-threatening stage of blood loss — which with the appreciated help of her clanmates, she had slowly begun to get better. A part of her still doubted Moosepaw, unsure of his intentions with her sister... But nonetheless, he got her back, and that was important. However she could, she would assist in helping those injured around, as well as find herbs for the time being. Though it had caught up with her, but it was nothing she couldn't handle.
Fourtrees had more herbs than she had expected, surprisingly; though the Five Clans all had those who were injured, and she learned to be patient. As she made a corner for herself, the herbs she'd gathered along with the help of the others were neatly displayed on the rocky surface of wall-like covers. "Fawwnnnnshineee?" She had heard the call of Echopaw, and her ears perked before turning around.
"Did you need something, Echopaw?" Out of her peripheral vision, her tail twitched as she spotted a squirrel scurrying away from where Echopaw presumably was. "Don't worry. Every good hunter takes their time before achieving greater catches. What have you been up to?" She'd offer a small smile.

Ah! There she was! Echopaw dropped the rock and the wilted daisies in front of her and sighed deeply. His own feet betrayed him from catching that silly squirrel, “Silly paws.” the tom-cat mused. Next time he would get a squirrel. After all, he was the biggest baddest Thunderclan apprentice. He didn’t know much of this Moosepaw fellow though. He had heard his mom call him Hank, that seemed like a silly name to him. Silly, Hank.
“Mm, what have I been up to? I found a flower for you!” he mewed pushing the daisy towards the medicine cat, “Mm, what’s it for? Maybe just for being pretty. Yes.” Echopaw looked around at the neatly displayed herbs on the rocky walls. His jaw opened slightly in awe. This was really the first time he had seen all of them together like this. The medicine den seemed sort of off-limits to him back at camp so he hadn’t ventured in. To be frank, he was kind of overwhelmed.

"A flower? For me?" Fawnshine flicked an ear in interest. However, the daisies seemed to, unfortunately, be wilted. However, she wouldn't decline a thoughtful gift. Even if it was the simplest of reasons. "Thank you, Echopaw. I appreciate it." Picking up the daisy, the medicine cat turned behind to set it on a rock.
"Since you're here, if you're interested," Fawnshine sat down, her tail flicking back as if to gesture to her collection of herbs. "I could teach you more about herbs. Basic wound-treating things, at least. I believe it'll be a nice opportunity for you to learn, don't you think?" And a part of her wished her previous apprentice would return — but it seemed, with the way that things were, hope was diminishing. So instead, she could teach Echopaw, a helping paw just in case she would need some assistance. It was better to know herbs for uncertain situations.

"Yes! For you!" he smiled brightly and watched her intently as she put it on the rock, she liked it! Yes! Nice job, Echopaw.
The apprentice plopped down and looked back to the herb wall, he was always ready and willing for a lesson. Especially if it made him more of an amazing apprentice than he already was. "Teach about herbs, yes! I'm ready!" he chirped, nearly wiggling with excitement, tail twitching. The only thing he knew was how to get rid of fleas, but he didn't know exactly where the mouse bile came from, he assumed Starclan gave it to medicine cats. Like a Tooth Fairy replacing money under pillows for kids type situation. But that was the extent of his herb knowledge, well and cobwebs could stop bleeding.

"Your spirit's certainly enthusiastic." Fawnshine chuckled. Not many apprentices were interested in herbology, but she was willing to share information with those who needed it. "You must already know about mouse bile and cobwebs. Those are the basics, of course. I'll teach you about herbs that'll prove more helpful, though still easy to remember." Once again turning to grab a few herbs, she placed them by Echopaw's paws.
"The first one are comfrey roots, or your mother's name. They're large leaves with bell-shaped flowers ranging from pink, purple, to white." She paused for a while, making sure that the apprentice was still interested. "They're a bit advanced, but I suppose you may be interested in her name origin. The herb can be used to ease sore and stiff joints, helps repair broken bones, and helps soothe wrenched claws. They're found in damp and grassy areas."
"The next are goldenrods, plants with bright yellow flowers. Marigold, orange-yellow flowers. And horsetail, tall plants with bristling leaves. These three mix into a poultice to stop and treat bleeding, as well as infection. Goldrenrod can be found in dry areas; horsetail in marshy areas, and marigold near water. Those are the must-know basics."
"Is there anything you'd like to know more, Echopaw? I'm not sure you'd want to be bored with too much knowledge." Fawnshine raised a brow, smiling softly.

There wasn’t anything he wasn’t willing to learn. And his aunt was very accommodating and made him feel very loved and wanted. Her joy at him wanting to lear, urged him to want to learn more. H-how did she know he knew those things…could..could medicine cats read minds? Echopaw raised an eyebrow at her and widened his pupils a little bit. Ha. That’s be silly. There’s no way she read his mind. Silly Echopaw.
His heart panged as she mentioned his mother and his expression softened. This was one he would never forget. The apprentice nodded, his body wriggling in excitement as he leaned forward and sniffed the root, it had a deep scent, almost dung-like. Echopaw sneezed and reeled back, sticking his tongue out. While he figured it was just one of those herbs that smelled bad but tasted okay, he wanted to step away from it for a second. Echopaw scanned the wall of herbs and scratched his head as he pointed to borage leaves, “Comfrey? Same leaves.” He mewed pointing between the two with an extended claw. They had similar shapes but slightly different colors that Echopaw couldn’t differentiate.
Echopaw kept watching very intently making sure to sniff and reach his paw towards the herb, touching them and committing them to memory as best as he could. While marigolds and goldenrods had similar looking colors, their shapes were different enough for him to tell them apart. And horsetail just looked comical. “Looks like Russetpaw’s tail!” He shouted, nearly falling backwards as he laughed. Silly Echopaw. “Poultice. Yes.” He mewed, still giggling but also making sure he paid attention. He couldn’t forget this. It was vital information.
At her question he thought for a moment to the great shake, and the Shadowclan cats walking through the flooded marshes and cats who caught nasty colds because of their wet paws, “How do I fix coughing, sneezing?” He inquired, tilting his head.

"Oh, dear, don't say that." Fawnshine teasingly narrowed her eyes, though her tone was light enough to not make the comparison that serious. Echopaw contained the enthusiasm that she'd want every cat to have, medicine cat or not. Perhaps, one day, she'd consider him as a choice when appointing a new apprentice. As much as the thought brang unease to replace Eggdrop, the she-cat had been missing for moons, and she didn't seem to be getting back soon — not especially now. Dismissing her thoughts, she would nod, pleased to satisfy the apprentice's inquiries.
"For coughs, catmint, a tall plant with dark leaves and a sweet smell, occasionally found with purple flowers, soothe greencough and whitecough. It's dangerous to collect them since they only grow in Twolegplace. A better replacement would be chickweed. They're tall stemmed plants with broad, rounded leaves, found in damp or rocky areas. They heal coughs and similar illnesses. Another would be coltsfoot, a plant with yellow or white flowers, found in wet or marshy areas. It eases breathing and soothes minor coughs. It can also treat sore and cracked pads."
"For sneezes, juniper berries, purple-blue berries from a dark, spiky-leafed plant can be used to ease breathing. It grows in dry areas. Poppy seeds can also ease breathing and soothe the mind, however, it is not recommended for queens. It can be dangerous for them and their kits. Now, is there anything more?" Part of her thought she might as well hold professional lessons for him to know more at this point, but it was good to keep these knowledge in mind, as long as they don't slip away.

Echopaw after realizing Fawnshine was just joking, giggled a little. He was excited equally about all learning so it was easy for him to show his enthusiasm as the medicine cat answered his question. Catmint sounded yummy. He tried to remember at least the name. In a situation where he needed to treat someone with white cough he supposed there would be someone else there that knew what it actually looked like so he wouldn't have to memorize it just this instant. Chickweed...coltsfoot..now that one he could remember. Foot for cracked pads! Easy!
Juniper berries also sounded yummy, but he couldn't think of a fun way to memorize it quite yet. Oh! Poppy seeds, he heard about them but he didn't know they were bad for queens and kits so it was very helpful that Fawnshine went over it. "Poppy seeds...they mainly help pain...yes?" he inquired, wrapping his tail around his paws and tilting his head.
