Subject: Redkit's Apprentice Ceremony Wed 26 Oct 2022 - 15:45
Leopardsun sat at the base of the Jaggedrock, calling out to all of ShadowClan: "All cats old enough to silently stalk in the shadows, please gather in the shadow of the Jaggedrock for a Clan meeting!"
The naming of a new apprentice was something particularly sacred to her, and the responsibility she most enjoyed. Meetings in general were pleasant, watching her Clan gather around, but ceremonies in particular were a symbol of what they were: a community, coming together to celebrate their own as they matured.
Redkit sat underneath the shadow of Jagged Rock and looked up at Leopardsun. His eyes were hard and the faintest smile was on his face. His tail tip flicked here and there with some slight impatience, but he held his tongue and sat still for now. All in due time, his time would come. Everyone would be here to witness his ascent to the next level of warriorhood within Shadowclan. What a privilege for them...
Kits were not patient by nature. It was something Leopardsun knew all too well, as she herself wasn't either- she had taken time to learn how to watch and wait patiently. To that end, she didn't want to drag out Redkit's obvious anticipation- every kit that could tell when their ceremony was approaching would obviously be ready and waiting for it. "Redkit, please step forward."
She gave a few moments for him to do so before continuing. She had thought long and hard about this particular decision, and felt some degree of confidence in it. "Redkit- you have reached the age of six moons, and are ready to become an apprentice. From this day until you earn your warrior name, you will be known as Redpaw. Honeylight will be your mentor- I trust that he will pass all that he knows on to you."
The deputy blinked at both the newly named apprentice and her good friend in turn, believing wholeheartedly that she had made a good decision. Honeylight had been named a warrior somewhat recently, but he was older and more experienced than the rest of the newer warriors; not that much younger than her.
Redkit smirked a little more, his fang tips showing ever so slightly as he strode forward. His tail rolled gently from side to side behind him, like a ribbon in the wind in slow motion. Redkit turned and fixed his eyes to the clan around him. Lowly beings. Clueless creatures. They had no idea what they were truly witnessing. His name was now Redpaw, but that would not be the end to his tale. No... no he had plans. Big plans. This was but one small step of his ascension.
Honeylight had been named his mentor, and he turned and gave the warrior a cool gaze and a small grin. "I look forward to starting whenever you please." His voice was still higher pitched than most toms his age, but as scratchy as an elder's. Honeylight was yet another stepping stone. One more step to his higher self. Honeylight would do just fine for this position.

Honeylight
Shadowclan Camp
Honeylight, as always when he was available, came out to sit with the gathering crowd, tilting his head to watch Leopardsun give her announcements. She had told him beforehand to be present for this ceremony in particular, though Honeylight wasn't quite sure why. As always when he saw his friend standing in front of the clan, he felt a small spark of pride in his chest. Leopardsun really was doing amazing as a deputy.
He turned his attention to the kit called forward for the ceremony. He hadn't spent any time with the kit. He wasn't bad with kits by any means, but he tended to avoid the nursery if he could. Honeylight was immediately drawn from his thoughts by Leopardsun calling his name. His eyes widened and filled with bright excitement. His own warrior ceremony wasn't all that long ago, so he hadn't even considered the possibility that he'd be getting his very own apprentice!
Honeylight rose to his feet, turning his attention to the newly named Redpaw, his eyes warm and bright. He leaned down to touch Redpaw's nose with his own with a purr. "We'll start early tomorrow morning then," He said with a grin. "I promise I'll teach you all I know." It was a bit odd to him, the way Redpaw held himself with such cool composure. He had scarcely been able to stop himself from jumping with joy at his own apprentice ceremony. But, then again, every cat was different. Maybe he was like Iceheart, and just on the reserved side. He'd have to ask Iceheart later about how to be a good mentor. He wanted to be as good for this young tom as Iceheart was for him.
