Beginning of a Beautiful(?) Friendship [C]

Blackbear, as usual, was monumentally bored. Her claws sheathed and unsheathed as she lay in camp, tail lashing aggressively. She stared intently at her paw as she flexed her claws, eyebrows furrowed. She gritted her teeth to prevent herself chewing her own paw off in boredom. Foxdung, was there nothing to do in this stars-forsaken Clan??? She didn't want to hunt. Hunting in this season was annoying, she always got leaves in her mouth and that made her want to kill someone. What she needed was a proper fight.

She looked around camp, ears flicking restlessly. There were a couple cats strewn about camp, most of them apprentices. She entertained the thought of sparring with one, but they were small and weak and always gave up early. She cast her eyes aside and looked around again, this time spotting her salvation- a red tom by the fresh-kill pile. She immediately got to her feet, her mood already lifted. He looked tough, from eyeing him up and down. Hopefully he'd pose a challenge. "Hey, you. You wanna spar?" she called out, voice gruff but laced with excitement.

The tom's enthusiasm raised her mood instantly- then made her glower in agitation once she processed his words. "You're the one getting beat, not me." She growled, though excitement glinted in her pale yellow eyes. She set off out of camp, heading for a clearing she often practiced in. She turned to her sparring partner as they walked. "Oh, it's a claws-out spar by the way. Don't care if that bothers you." If they didn't walk away from this bleeding she'd be sorely disappointed. Besides, if Stoatpaw could fight her claws-out then this tom certainly could. She got excited thinking about it. Finally, a proper fight! After moons of fighting nothing but kits, apprentices and trees. Her usual constant growl was almost a purr at the idea of it.

The two of them finally emerged from the thick undergrowth, stepping into a clearing Blackbear knew well. Shreds of bark littered the ground, the trees it grew on mutilated by moons worth of clawing. She stopped, wheeling around to face him. She'd been giving sparring partners head starts for so long... not today. With little more than a nod and a grunt as warning, she launched herself at him and wrapped her paws around his neck, sending him hurtling to the ground.

This tom was good, she had to admit. She barely had time to process before he was on top of her, claws digging into her shoulders. She snarled at him, more performative than an actual show of anger. In fact, this was pretty fun. "Shut up." was all she could think of as a retort to Crimsonflame's taunt.

She lifted her back paws, bunching them up under his belly. It was odd, fighting with her back legs, but if she got the angle right...

She kicked out, satisfied when she made contact. She flipped over onto all fours and darted out from under him, then whirling to face him again. "Still think you'll win?" She growled, holding back a smile. Her heart was pumping, adrenaline was filling her veins. She'd forgotten just how fun this was.

Blackbear used Duck and Twist, dealing 7 damage and costing 5 stamina. Blackbear is no longer pinned.

Blackbear took in a sharp gasp of air as Crimsonflame dug his teeth into her neck, slicing at her with his claws at the same time. She jerked out of his grip, his teeth leaving long gashes where she ripped free. She hissed in pain, though now there was no hiding it: she was smiling. Crimsonflame was good. Not just good, he was brilliant. Clearly whatever battle training he'd done as a rogue paid off. No enemy cat she'd ever met could fight like that. And Blackbear could finally let off some steam.

She gave him a jerky nod, not bothering with words anymore, and charged at him. It wasn't particularly creative of her, but she leapt onto him and shoved him back-first onto the ground again. This time, she wasn't keen on letting him get out of her grip. Her claws dug into his shoulders and she gave a triumphant huff.

Blackbear used Leap and Hold on Crimsonflame, dealing 8 damage and costing 15 stamina. Crimsonflame is stunned for 1 turn.
