There was something reassuring about leading a patrol. It was still a responsibility, but it was far less stressful than overseeing all of them. For this brief window of time where she was outside of camp, Leopardsun held in her paws responsibility for the cats around her; and because of that, she could properly focus on it. "Let's check on Carrionplace," she said as they walked out of camp, the sun slowly rising over the horizon. "Has anyone been there recently?"
In truth, Leopardsun preferred to avoid it- much like the Thunderpath, it was overpowering and something that often stuck with her long after she had left. But unlike the Thunderpath, she very rarely had any reason to approach Carrionplace. Now, though, ensuring there was no danger anywhere in the territory- be it from trespassing cats or some other source- was a priority.

Iceheart hadn’t gone on a dawn patrol in ages, and so it was kind of nice to be a part of it. What was nicer still was to be going on it with Honeypaw and their new deputy, Leopardsun. Iceheart hadn’t spent much time with Leopardsun, but she knew that she and Honeypaw were friends, so she felt comfortable enough in her presence. And now that she was the deputy, Iceheart had a newfound respect for her too.
“I have not,” Iceheart meowed. That last time she remembered going to the Carrionplace was when Snakebite was still around. She idly wondered if he was happy, wherever he’d gotten off to. “I don’t think many cats enjoy going near there.”

“Who would?” Honeypaw piped up. “It smells awful over there. I haven’t been there recently either.” He hadn’t gone by the Carrionplace really since Iceheart first showed it to him. Although he’d happily go for the sake of protecting his clan. Not to mention he’d take the Carrionplace and its dangers over the Deep Marsh any day, especially right now when the water levels in their territory were still so high. He sidestepped a puddle as they walked, wrinkling his nose at it.
Still, Honeypaw was in a bright mood. Going on patrols like this felt like a return to normalcy, something Honeypaw was desperately craving along with most of the clan. And besides, he had great company. Iceheart and Leopardsun were both amazing cats and good friends, and he was more than pleased to get to go on a patrol with them. He lifted his head and enjoyed the first sun’s rays tickling through the trees on his fur, a small purr escaping him.

"You both make good points, admittedly. It's not exactly a pleasant place to visit. But that's all the more reason to check in on occasion, isn't it?" Leopardsun led the way toward Carrionplace with caution- perhaps a bit too much caution, but she wanted to make sure no preventable injuries befell them. "I'm sure you don't need the reminder, but be on your guard- and watch out for rats."
She hadn't yet had the misfortune of being set upon by rats whenever she had to come near, but she had listened carefully enough to the tales of them to know they were bad news. Bringers of disease and one part of the reason the Carrionplace was only a last resort for stocking ShadowClan's fresh-kill pile.

Iceheart nodded solemnly. She knew of the stories of the disease that the rats could bring. The last thing they would want was to bring such diseases into the clan. There were Twolegs there on occasion as well, another reason to not spend much time there, and so Iceheart kept her ears pricked and listening. Following Leopardsuns’s guidance, the trio set off towards the Carrionplace. Iceheart tried her best to smell past the wetness of the marsh and listened for any squeaking of rats that may have strayed too far from the shiny barrier around the Carrionplace.

Honeypaw shuddered at the idea of rats. He'd never personally encountered them, but he'd heard stories, and they sounded awfully creepy. Besides, he certainly didn't want to risk disease being brought back to the clan, especially after everything that happened with the flood. Honeypaw obediently fell into place beside Iceheart and Leopardsun, quieting himself and keeping his ears and nose open for signs of threats. Amber eyes scanned their surroundings, and he opened his mouth every now and then to breathe in deeply and try and catch as many scents as he could.

Leopardsun, content that Honeypaw and Iceheart knew the dangers and would exercise a reasonable amount of caution, slowly crept forward. Pausing every few steps to scent the air and look around, the smell of something old and rotten was nearly overwhelming. She had to imagine it was something that she would get used to with time, but it wasn't pleasant and it was honestly more than a bit distracting. It was much harder to focus on a single scent trail when she had to pick it out from something so strong.
As her nose failed her, she turned her focus to her eyes and ears to look for anything strange or unusual; black-tipped ears pricked as green eyes looked around the area.

The smell of crowfood and other garbage hit them as soon as they descended the little hill towards the tall metal barrier. Iceheart could not imagine actually coming to this Twoleg waste dump for food, and she hoped that they never would have to resort to it. She couldn’t scent much of anything in here besides the overwhelming disgusting smells that permeated every large pile of junk that they wound about through.
Which is precisely how the dog managed to sneak up on them.
Iceheart didn’t sense that anything was amiss until a sudden loud barking filled the air right behind them. Iceheart barely managed to turn before a clawed paw slammed against her, sending her careening backwards and crashing into one of the small piles of junk. Iceheart’s vision swam as she staggered to her feet.
The junkyard dog was large and intimidating with slobber dripping down its loose jowls. It wore a collar with metal spikes on it, like a twoleg had given it a war weapon. The dog broke out into a fit of loud, demonic barks and growls that sent Iceheart’s heart plummeting into her stomach just at the mere sound of it.
Iceheart shook her head to clear it of its dizziness and before the dog could descend on Leopardsun or Honeypaw as well, she launched herself at the dog, managing to knock it down to the ground briefly. Its whines of pain were satisfying to Iceheart as she panted for breath.
Junkyard Dog used Heavy Blow on Iceheart, dealing 17 damage and costing 22 SP. Iceheart used Dishonorable Charge, dealing 9 damage and costing 20 SP.
