With his leg- the worse of his injuries -slowly getting better, Rowanpaw had taken to spending more time outside the medicine den. He couldn't bring himself to wander far from it yet, something he could reason as simply not wanting to be hounded by the medicine cats for stressing his wound. Sprawled out just in front of the den, the tom was relishing in the warm sunlight. There was a pleasant breeze in the air today, keeping the air from getting too hot and stagnant. It was pleasant, and the perfect weather for taking a quick nap in. And if he was napping, he wouldn't have to think about any of the cats that had become his constant companions over recent suns. He was unbothered by anything except the chattering of his Clanmates as they went about their days. But... he'd never been good at sitting still. Even as he started to doze off, Rowanpaw found himself growing agitated with energy he couldn't spend. He was supposed to be out patrolling, learning to fight and hunt and be a good warrior. A good warrior, like two his siblings had already become, and like- Rowanpaw snorted. He refused to look over his shoulder at the den behind him, lest he be drawn back into its shadows to sit, grumbling, in the nest opposite Stormdance's. He'd intended to take his moment of reprieve and stretch it as long as he could, even if it wouldn't be as solitary as he'd planned.
Awake from his dozing and agitated by boredom, Rowanpaw pushed himself into sitting upright. Green eyes scanned the cats gathered in the clearing, until his eyes landed on a semi-familiar white and tabby pelt. He'd never talked to Brookstone, except maybe in passing by her association with his mentor and family... but he'd never talked to her. She was the closest cat to him, though, and she was at least chatty enough to put off his agitation and wandering gui- thoughts. Waving his tail to get her attention, Rowanpaw called out, "Brookstone! Oh, Brookstone. It's absolutely horrible, and you must come quick, please."
❒ She was finally starting to settle into a better paced routine. There hadn't been more injures caused by predators lately so she wasn't sent in circles trying to help take on the duties of said injured. The ones that had already been temporarily residing in the medicine cat's den were recovering rather well, thankfully. She was grateful for the two hardworking medicine cats for all they've done.
❒ A movement near the medicine cat's den caught her eye. She glanced up to find Stormdance's apprentice, Rowanpaw, waving at her with his tail. At least, she thought he was waving at her. She took a few glances around her but nobody else was nearby to have been the one he was gaining the attention from. It was confirmed the moment he called out her name. She grinned at him but it faded just as quickly at his "urgent" beckon. She felt herself tense. Where was the trouble? She scanned the area warily before coming up with no results. She narrowed her eyes in a calculating way. Just what was that furball playing at?
❒ She huffed and sauntered slowly, right up to the troublesome apprentice with a deadpanned expression. "Ya called?" she drawled with a hint of mirth in her tone. She wasn't actually annoyed. At this point, most should be aware that she liked to tease others. If they didn't, then she'll make them aware.
❒ She made a show of looking dramatically to the left then the right before facing Rowanpaw. "Where's this "horrible" trouble ya needed Brookstone the Mighty fo'?" She struggled to keep a straight face before she just gave up and grinned. She plopped herself down in front of him with a snort. "What's got your fur in a twist, little fishy? Or did ya wanna hang out with your Big Sister Brook? I can't blame ya. I am pretty awesome." She grinned at him and waggled her brows.

Brookstone didn't hesitate long before responding to his urgent calls. There was a moment where she looked thoughtful and serious, and that hardened expression nearly frightened Rowanpaw into thinking he had somehow again summoned trouble. But then she padded right up to him, offering her dramatics as she looked side to side, and when she flopped down in front of him she was wearing her natural grin again. A wolfish smirk warmed the apprentice's features in turn, and he let out a quiet purr in response to the affectionate nickname. He didn't talk to his sister quite enough, though he did enjoy her presence when it was available-- she was just as cheeky as he was, and he could appreciate feeling like he actually matched wits with someone.
"Oh, Brookstone, I'm delighted you came. It really, truly is terrible." He was still smirking and poorly trying to hide his toothy as he bemoaned his problems. "The medicine den is so boring! There is nothing to do or see, and I can only talk to Stormdance and Woolywing and Sandypaw and my aunt so many times before I want to dig a hole under them." At that, he let out a low groan, and flopped over onto to his side with a dramatic huff. "I can tolerate it no longer, Brookstone. It's terrible."
Rowanpaw's tail swished over the sand, stirring up a fine cloud of dust as it whisked through the silt. Rolling onto his back, he twisted himself around to look up at Brookstone, marveling briefly at how odd her features looked from this angle. Stretching out a paw, the apprentice gave his sister a gentle bap over the bottom of her chin. "You have been given the honorable task of keeping me from clawing their eyes out from boredom. Tell me a story, Brookstone. Something fun."

❒ "Oh?" One of her brows arched upward. She fought hard to keep the grin that was itching to show itself off her face. She managed barely but she was inwardly cackling. Dear Starclan, the apprentice was such a drama queen. He almost rivaled her. Mixing them both was a recipe for disaster but she didn't care. This perfect opportunity has presented itself to her and you bet she was taking it.
❒ Her face adopted a faux solemn look as she gazed at the younger cat. She nodded as she listened to him spill his truly terrible woes. "Well, Rowanpaw, you've called upon the right cat to help ya with your awful problem. Your days of drainin' boredom are now over. Just my presence here has slain them and they should now know better than ta show themselves again." Her "seriousness" only lasted for a few moments longer before she broke. She couldn't keep herself from throwing her head back and laughing. She regained composure and huffed as her little brother bopped her chip. She lifted a paw and returned the bop but on his nose. She then quickly copied Rowan's earlier movements so they could both be belly-up.
❒ She shot him another grin and waggled her brows. "Oh? Just know that I'm feelin' very honored, oh great Rowanpaw. Anybody would jump fo' joy if a great cat like you offered them the chance to entertain ya." She turned her head back to stare at the sky before speaking up again, "A story huh?" She harbored a thoughtful expression for a moment. "Have ya ever heard of that one time when a Riverclanner tricked two Thunderclanners?" She had a mischievous twinkle in her eyes. "I can assure you it's a very real story that happened a looong time ago." She turned away so he didn't see her snickering before turning back. "Now, one day, two Thunderclan warriors named Squirreltail and Robincall were arguin' over a fat squirrel at Sunningrocks. They kept fightin' over how much of it each of them should get. Kinda dumb but that's just what I think. Anyway, they didn't notice a Riverclanner by the name of Troutfin was lounging on a rock nearby and was watchin' the silly argument happen. Rolling his eyes, he called out to the other cats and said he was willing ta help them split their prey so they could cease arguin' like fussy little kits. Pride wounded, they hastily agreed, embarrassed by having been caught by a Riverclanner acting so silly. Troutfin told them he would split the squirrel in half and each cat would get one half. That seemed more than reasonable so they handed the prey over to Troutfin. He split it into two pieces as he said, but one of the pieces ended up larger than the other. Now the Troutfin nibbled on the larger piece and tried to make it equal but now that ended up smaller than the other. He kept nibblin' on the squirrel in an attempt to make the prey equal but he soon ended up eatin' it all! Secretly, he had planned that while he had been watching them before and successfully managed to pull it off. When they asked him what he’d done, he said that if they had split the squirrel themselves this wouldn’t have happened! Troutfin then made his escape and ran off, laughing all the way back ta camp—belly now full and completely satisfied from having made a fool out of the Thunderlcanners... Troutfin was cool and someone everyone should aspire to be like." She finished the story, her voice gaining a serious tone at the end. She shot the apprentice a toothy grin. "So, how'd ya like that? funny story huh?"
