Sibling Bonding [C]

Blackbear, for all her fighting and training and generally avoiding camp for fear of boredom, had hardly noticed that her little brother was no longer a newborn. She sparsely remembered she had a brother at all, that was until their mother suggested she take him on a patrol. She was prepared to complain that apprentices were slow and clumsy and general hindrances, but her mother's gaze allowed no arguments and she reluctantly agreed with a quiet growl. Beechpaw wasn't the worst apprentice to be saddled with on a patrol, anyway. He was kin, so he was sure to have some of her talent. She hoped he wasn't annoying.

Yawning idly, she padded into the apprentices' den where her brother sat waiting. "Beechpaw, c'mere. We're going on a patrol, Mom says we have to." She waited until he got up and followed, then she made her way out of camp. "You any good at sparring? Claws-out sparring I mean, none of that baby stuff." She hoped, him being her flesh and blood as well as quite large for his age, that he'd be a good opponent. Of course, she'd go easy on him. Maybe. The two arrived at the Halfstone. Blackbear still had vivid memories of her first ever fight, a spar with Birdchaser. She wasn't Beechpaw's mentor, but as his sister she was going to teach him what Birdchaser taught her. Except better, because they'd be using claws. She didn't have the same 'no blood' rule as her former mentor, and they probably wouldn't get in trouble if they didn't hurt each other too bad. "You can attack first, if you want. No rules." She gave him a sly smile.

Beechpaw got up yawning, and followed his sister out of the den. He was excited to go out with Blackbear. He trotted through the forest, listening to the birds around him.

When they reached the Halfstone, they came to a stop and Blackbear faced towards him. She said that she was gonna let him fight her. "Alright, I'll show you how strong I am!" Beechpaw shook himself, relaxing his muscles. A couple heartbeats later, Beechpaw launched himself at Blackbear.

Blackbear chuffed appreciatively as Beechpaw attacked without hesitation, taking only a moment to shake out his muscles and accept her challenge before he charged at her. He attacked with a front paw and Blackbear was happy to see that his claws were out, grazing her shoulder. She hissed at the contact and took a step back. "Good. Never hesitate." She twitched her tail and sprang at him, pinning him to the ground with a loud show-offy growl and her claws in his shoulders. "Get out of this pin. I'm not telling you how, you gotta figure it out." He should figure it out by himself. Blackbear personally would aim for a good kick to the pinner's stomach... But maybe Beechpaw had something else up his sleeve.


Blackbear used Leap and Hold, dealing 8 HP and costing 15 SP. Beechpaw is pinned for 1 turn.

Beechpaw felt proud of the compliment from his sister. Almost immediately after his attack, Blackbear pinned him to the ground. Wriggling, he tried to escape from her grip.

Unfortunately, it didn't work. He only loosened himself a bit. He felt disappointed, but wouldn't give up on this fight!
