Braving the Snakes [SOLO]

Eggpaw

Herbs, Eggpaw's mind was buzzing with them. The names, shapes, and uses. She was honestly impressed with herself for learning so much already. Even if all her effort didn't keep Shadepaw from joining StarClan. A frown settled on her lips as the medicine cat apprentice left the camp, tail twisting as she was deep in thought. She had failed to keep anyone from dying. Her brother passed, and she couldn't do enough. With a shaky sigh, Eggpaw ducked her head under a fallen branch. She couldn't let it drag her down. Shadepaw would want her to stay determined. With as much courage as she could muster, Eggpaw turned her path towards the Snakerocks. She couldn't fight and would run if a snake lunged at her. But, herbs were plenty around these parts. And while the heat from the sun was still strong, Eggpaw knew that winter would be soon approaching. Even if she had never seen it before.

Hesitant, Eggpaw paused at the edge of the Snakerocks, swiping her green gaze over the length of the pile. Courage is what she needed. There wasn't a herb for that.

It seemed her courage prevailed, As Eggpaw spotted a patch of grass long one large rock. With careful steps, the black-pelted apprentice caught sight of yellow flowers bundled up, the detailed leaves showcasing the herb that Eggpaw knew it as. Tansy. Glee filled her being and quickly rushed over to collect bundles, leaving the rest to grow, knowing this would be another good place to visit later when they were prepping for winter. Setting the leaf-wrapped bundle by the path leading towards camp, Eggpaw's gaze traveled around again, trying to catch flicks of green and colorful flowers in the rocks.

Her luck seemed improbable, Yet here she was! Another batch of yellow flowers caught her gaze. These flowers, however, their petals radiated from one inner potion of the flower, open to the elements. Unlike Tansy. With glee, the apprentice once again gathered all she could, leaving the others to grow and stay fresh for the coming winter. Another bundle down, Eggpaw stood in the middle of the Snakerocks. Nothing could bring her down now! Fawnshine was going to be so impressed with her. The thought of her mentor's pride sent her tail into the air. Maybe, she would become a full medicine cat after this...!

Her luck couldn't last, of course. Yet, her gaze landed on an all-familiar plant, the pink-red flowers drooping in the hot sunlight. Burnet. It was nearly poetic, Eggpaw figured, gathering a bundle to bring back. The first herb she had ever touched, being there on one of her final herb gathering missions as an apprentice to the medicine cat. Pride surged in her chest, and the apprentice lifted the bundle towards the other three. She had found plenty, but the realization she had to carry them back to the camp made the apprentice drop her tail. It was going to take a while. Tucking one bundle under her chin, Eggpaw fit the other two in her mouth, and in the most ridiculous form possible, she staggered her way home, her herb prizes secure.
