Hunting Under the Dusk Light (c)

Dandelionflight finished the thrush she picked out. She needed to hurry because soon it would be too dark out to hunt with Frostpaw. She looked around the clearing for the gray tabby apprentice. She approached her and meowed, "Hey Frostpaw! It's time to go hunting." She turned around and cast one final glance to make sure Frostpaw was following. The forest loomed out before them as she led the way through the underbrush.

Frostpaw stirred, her eyes looking up at her mentor. “Great,” she meowed before following Dandelionflight.

The forest was alive, breathing in and out on its own accord.

She kept scenting the air as she followed her mentor.

Once they had gotten far enough into the forest, Dandelionflight paused and turned to Frostpaw. "I want you to try and catch something. I'll watch and give you tips!" She instructed. She waited for her apprentice to start the hunt. She'd look for her own prey later.

Frostpaw was too hot. It had no business being this hot, and she would send that thought straight to StarClan in a snarl.

Hunting was necessary, even when it was hotter than fire outside. Her belly gurgled a bit as midday sweltered over her.

“I’ll do my best,” she meowed, not as certain as her mentor.

She stalked in the underbrush, her eyes level with a bluebird.

Basing on instinct alone, she leapt at the bird, claws and teeth ready.

Dandelionflight watched as Frostpaw leaped at the bluebird. She narrowly missed it and the bird and it loudly fluttered off. She was about to step up and give Frostpaw some advice when a dark shape swooped down through the trees. She noticed it and recognized it as a hawk. She jumped up with a powerful kick and tackled the predator to the ground, slashing at its chest. While it was trashing, one of its talons struck out and clawed at her exposed belly. She let out a gasp of pain as blood seeped from the wound.

Dandelionflight used Jumping Strike, dealing 13 damage (10+3) and costing 7 SP! Hawk used Talon Strike, dealing 7 damage and costing 10 SP!

“Rats’ tails,” Frostpaw hissed as she missed her target. What she didn’t expect though was for a massive hawk to careen directly at them. “What in StarClan’s name—”

There was no time for panic. Dandelionflight was hurt because of this thing, and that could not stand. Frostpaw aimed to slash at the bird’s eyes, claws unsheathed.

Frostpaw used Front Paw Strike on the hawk, dealing 6 HP damage, using 7 SP!
