Hawkpaw still felt hollow after his mother's death. Of course, his siblings were as well. None of them could truly be happy without her around. At that moment, when she died... It felt so hopeless. She was there, still hanging on fine! But then — that happened. Poppyshine's words echoed out along with a mix of the other warriors'. Sure, Dovesight probably didn't do anything wrong... But she could've at least told him, or his family to come over during the last few moments when she was still... there!He didn't know how experienced Dovesight was, but a grudge had been set on her ever since. His mom could've been healthier with at least a better-experienced medicine cat. It was as if she had no training at all. Wanting to set his mind off something more positive, Hawkpaw had asked his siblings for a spar — and Hickorypaw seemed to be the only one free. Not that he was really getting his hopes up for more cats, anyway... But oh well. With permission from their mentors, Hawkpaw set out to RiverClan's territory with his brother. "I know things are a bit harder right now, but don't be too saddened, okay? Ma's still watching us from the stars, so don't forget." He mewed, offering a slow, sincere blink to the tom as they arrived at their destination. "I won't go easy on you, but I'll let you take the first free move to the spar. Go on." He smiled. If anyone was to be the proud brother figure, it had to be him! Not like he'd ever allowed himself to be upset in front of his siblings, anyway. That would be so embarrassing... | Hickorypaw wanted to forget what had happened that day, he still cursed at himself when he went into camp, expecting to see his mother lounging in the sun, getting better. He felt almost sick thinking about Mum. He hated it. Why couldn't she stay a little longer? Why was she gone? Why couldn't Dovesight help her? Why didn't she wake up? Each time Hickorypaw thought about it, the more he wanted to sob. Maybe he was longing for the comfort of another cat, though he knew he could only feel as happy as he once was if his mother was alive.
Why did StarClan take her? Did they not love his littermates? Was it because his mother used to be a WindClan cat? Whatever the reason for StarClan's hatred, Hickorypaw didn't want to put up for it. He remained in the Apprentice den, only leaving when he absolutely had to, because he had nothing to look forward to right now. Nothing.
Hickorypaw was originally going to decline his brother's offer. But... He needed something to do, maybe not something to take his mind off of the death, but just something to keep him busy at least. He didn't want to be completely useless.
Following his brother into the territory, he expected silence, but Hawkpaw- for some reason- decided to try and comfort him. "She's watching us from the same stars that took her away." He grumbled. "You're saddened too, don't you let yourself forget." He flattened his ears, before taking his position a couple tail-lengths away from the tom. "Okay. I won't go easy either." Hickorypaw launched himself at his littermate, bowling him over with his big paws.
Maybe this was actually... fun?

With a grunt at the impact of his brother's leap towards him, Hawkpaw was bowled over — but he was quick to take action. With his tail unguarded, Hawkpaw bit down, pulling sharply to knock his brother away from him — But it was more in a mischievous manner. He hadn't meant to badly injure Hickorypaw at all, just a temporary stun for him to attack. Hawkpaw used Tail Yank for 15 SP, dealing 7 damage.
