Coyotegrin and Fallowpaw walked side by side at a quick pace. It was time to hunt, and make sure Fallowpaw was ready to be a warrior. StarClan knew that WindClan needed more. As they slowed down on top of a hill, Coyotegrin glanced over to Fallowpaw. "Before we start, please give me an answer to this question. Say you follow a rabbit into a burrow. You've caught the prey you chased, but you find a family of rabbits in this burrow, with no way out. Do you stay and kill the rest of them? Or do you leave them." Finally, she stopped, and she kept her gaze intently on her apprentice.

Fallowpaw followed along after Coyotegrin, whiskers twitching at the chance to catch a whiff of prey on the Greenleaf breezes that blew across the moors. He blinked at her question and thought for a moment. His apprenticeship was beginning to run long, so she must be testing to see if he was ready for an assessment. “I’d leave them,” he answered, meeting his mentor’s gaze. “I already caught something. If I kill too many, eventually there won’t be enough rabbits to repopulate and we’ll all end up starving in the end.”

Coyotegrin nodded and slowed to a stop. "Perfect, exactly right. Plus, it leaves more to grow and feed us in the future. Now, let's see if you can hunt anything. I'll wait for you to have a catch before finding one." Little did Fallowpaw know, this was his hunting assessment. He would be a warrior soon.

Fallowpaw nodded. He stood still with his mouth parted, waiting to see if the breeze would bring him any prey scent to track. It did— from downwind, he picked up the scent of rabbit. He flicked his tail in the general direction of it and dropped into a practiced crouch to move closer to plan his strike.

Fallowpaw attempts to catch a rabbit for -3SP. Success!

The rabbit, busy munching away on some budding flowers among the tall grass, didn’t catch Fallowpaw’s approach until the tom was within range to attack. With quick precision, Fallowpaw launched himself at it, claws digging through fur and teeth digging into the scruff of the neck, ending the prey without much of a struggle.

Coyotegrin nodded to her apprentice, catching up to him at a slow trot. "Amazing kill. Can you try for a bird this time?" She cocked her head and twitched her tail in curiosity.
