Driftcloud poked their head into the apprentices' den, searching for their latest apprentice. Locating her sleeping form, he picked his way around tails and limbs to prod her with a heavy paw. "Up an' at 'em, Trufflepaw, time t' head out," they said, their voice low both from their own tiredness and to keep from waking the other apprentices. Retreating back out of the den, the white warrior sat down to wait, stifling a yawn. Early mornings were never easy, and training patrols weren't either. They didn't mind training apprentices, rather liked it, actually. It was the schedule that really came for their hide. If allowed, Driftcloud would have lazed around in their nest all day...but alas, he had a duty to the Clan.

Shuffling their paws idly in the dirt, he thought back to the other apprentices he..."trained". First was Myrtleturtle-dove, who...was in StarClan, and became a medicine cat apprentice before Driftcloud could really do anything. Then there was Chivepaw, who had disappeared some moons ago. That thought still kept the warrior up at night; could they have done anything differently? That was during the Dark Forest's reign...they did what they could. That's what they told themself, and they did their best to believe it.

But they wouldn't fail this time. For themself, for the Clan, and especially for Trufflepaw. Whiskers twitching, he looked back towards the opening of the den. "Stars, if ya take any longer I'm gonna be an elder by th' time y'get out here," he called, a joking smile playing on his maw.

Trufflepaw huffed as she exited the apprentice's den, leaving behind the sleeping form of her siblings. '"Maybe you enjoy looking like a mess, but for the love of StarClan, give me a second to tame down my fur." She gave the sarcasm right back to her mentor before flicking her large and fluffy tail to demonstrate the bushiness of her long fur. The disgruntled apprentice got her fur from her father and her tongue from her mother. With a neutral face, Trufflepaw started her path to the entrance and then stopped, turning her head to call back to her mentor. "You coming? Any day now." She didn't hate Driftcloud, not as much as most cats. In her eyes, they were family... Almost. Not quite, but close enough they had the most feather-width of respect from her.

They chuckled at her snappy retort, shaking their head as they followed after her. She would be a pawful, he was sure, but nothing he couldn't handle."Hm, why go through the effort t' look pristine when it'll jus' get messed up again?" Driftcloud hummed thoughtfully, moving a little faster to catch up to his apprentice. "'M comin', 'm comin', hold yer hairballs."

At least she didn't hate them. He would need at least some respect in order to train her properly. Lumbering past Trufflepaw, Driftcloud got in front to lead the way.

"Figured we could do some sparrin' t'day, how does that sound?"

Out of anything, Trufflepaw preferred sparring. She would be as great of a warrior as Mother, if not better one day. So yes, sparring would be quite swell. "I am okay with that, if you can handle it, old cat." Her tail swished from side to side as they traveled to the usual sparring spot. Trufflepaw was anxious to get her warrior name so she could have more freedom within the forest. Perhaps one day, she would have herself only to answer too, instead of some old bags that could hardly keep up a fight. Boredom was already creeping into her thoughts, and she yearned for something exciting and dangerous. Thrilling. And it was probably across that border.

"Ain't even that old..." he mewed, rolling his eyes at her. Once they had reached their training spot, Driftcloud turned to Trufflepaw, a grin spreading across their maw. "Alright, kit, you asked for it. Gimme all you've got, I'll do the same. A proper spar. Ready?" Without waiting for a response, the warrior launched himself at his apprentice. He wasn't aiming to truly hurt her, simply teach her how to properly fight.

Driftcloud used Headbutt on Trufflepaw, dealing 7 damage and using 5 stamina.
