Hello WCC! As most of you are aware, in May we wrapped up our (semi) annual site-wide plot. In order to get a feel for the thoughts and opinions of those involved, we released a survey with a few questions that many of you filled out. We’d like to thank everyone who took the time to fill out the survey, and address a few of the comments we received! So, read below if that is something you are interested in hearing! ^^ Overall opinions of the sitewide seemed to vary - not overwhelmingly bad, but also not overwhelmingly great. In general, people seemed to think that the following went well: - plot sign-ups - plot content - RPer involvement. On the other end of the spectrum, the following is what people commented they felt could have gone better: - HR involvement in the plot - more direction and explanations of events - darker plot contents A little later I will address a few of those points more in depth, but for now I’m going to continue with the general overview. People tended to enjoy the concept of the plot, how it rallied the Clans/Clanmates together, and the finale was a top favorite among members. The middle of the plot was most frequently referred to as a least favorite, along with a general sense of disorganization. Based on user suggestions, the team is going to work toward sitewides with content that is less dark, and doesn’t necessarily drive the Clans apart. It wouldn’t be any fun if I told you exactly what we had in store, though, would it? ;) (For real though, I promise we have taken suggestions about future plots into account!) Now that we’ve covered a general overview, please see the spoilers below for how the staff team intends to improve for future plots and sitewides! - More Staff Direction:
Many people mentioned that they would have benefited from more solid direction and guidance for the plot, as they were unsure of what to do with their characters/NPCs. For the next sitewide and all future sitewides, the team intends to provide a clear example of what characters are/are not allowed or expected to do, and ensure that there is a general understanding of the plot contents without giving away any hidden surprises or plot points. This may include examples, general ideas, and points about what characters may be thinking, feeling, and behaving. If all goes well, this should aid RPers in interacting with the plot more thoroughly and with more of an understanding of the plot’s direction.
- NPCs and Sign-Ups:
There were a few mentions of people not being quite active enough to play an integral role in the plot’s success. Staff believes this may have been a result of the Dark Forest positions being first come, first served, and as a result, we will be properly vetting any future sign-ups to ensure that these important plot roles are only going to people who have proven they are active enough to fulfil their roles. Also, tangentially related, we will be giving more direct points for those who sign up for roles so that the RPers are more informed on their expectations and what they must do in order to complete their roles. Hopefully, this will improve engagement and activity for those who sign up for plot roles in the future.
- High Rank Involvement:
Unfortunately, many of our high ranks went inactive or needed to step down throughout the duration of the plot. This is largely something outside of staff’s control, and it is usually exceptionally difficult for new high ranks to settle into their roles in the thick of a sitewide plot. However, we will try to mitigate these issues in the future by frequently checking in on high ranks, offering assistance where needed, and providing ideas for plot engagement and interactions.
- Darker Plot Content:
In the future, staff will work to provide any appropriate trigger/content warnings whenever there may be sensitive content within a plot. While, unfortunately, there isn’t much we can do to completely eliminate some darker content, we will give warnings prior to the events taking place so that those who wish not to engage may take precautions that work for them to avoid said content. As a generalized rule, contents of sitewides will never be darker than content that can be found in the books, as a point of reference for what is and is not allowed on WCC.
Of a similar nature, there were a few comments worried about Dawnhawk’s relation to the literal Lucifer. The staff team would like to reiterate that Dawnhawk was not Lucifer, as that would not be allowed on WCC. It is to my understanding that the character Dawnhawk is based on, outside of WCC, may have been. However, that did not translate to the site.
- Plot Structure:
In order to make future plots more organized and efficient, the team is going to implement milestone events to signify plot progress, where possible. Rather than having a major beginning event and major ending event, this will provide a more clear schedule and structure of events, as well as a solid timeline from beginning to end.
Thank you for reading! Hopefully, this insight and the subsequent changes will help improve all of our future plots. If you have any comments, questions, or concerns, feel free to either comment below or reach out to a staff member! - Maple and the Staff Team ______________________________________ ♛ Site Baby Sister ♛ | Briarthorn | Nightbird | Smudgepaw | | T5 SkC Warrior | T2 SkC Warrior | WC Apprentice | |
