It was near midday, Ashflight had already taken Brookpaw hunting and helped clean up around camp when Poppyshine asked him to accompany her on a patrol to the Twoleg farm border. He had agreed, though a bit hesitantly. There was no way that the deputy, being so young, would know his connection with that place. Besides, he had avoided that area for far too long, it was high time he faced his fear. The long-furred gray tom sat down patiently by the camp entrance, taking the moment to groom his silver-tinged fur and scarred ears. The warrior's gaze wandered to the leader's den, and he couldn't help the soft smile that overtook his face. Sleeping in the den, alone, with Perchstar was something he was still getting used to, but he wouldn't trade it for the world. The fact that they were mates sometimes didn't register properly in his mind, it was such a miraculous idea, but it was true. Perchstar loved him, and he loved her. He wondered if Poppyshine knew yet, they hadn't been exactly subtle about the transition...

Poppyshine
Finally—a day out with Ashflight. For as long as Poppyshine had been alive, and as much as she knew how close Perchstar was with him, she had never really spent much time around Ashflight. She didn’t know much about his past, or what he was like, or what things he enjoyed doing. She knew a bit about him from what Perchstar told her, and she had seen him interact with other cats from day to day; but they had spent no time actually one-on-one. It was about time that they did, considering that Ashflight now spent his nights in Perchstar’s den.
“So how have you been?” Poppyshine asked, chipper as ever, as they made the trek towards the Twoleg farm border. “I hope you’ve been doing well with Brookpaw. She seems to like you!” From the brief interactions she’d caught of the pair, Ashflight seemed to be able to handle Brookpaw, which was good. With someone so rambunctious, it was important that her mentor had their head on straight, and Ashflight was a great cat for the task. That wasn't the only thing on her mind, though, as she added, "And I certainly hope you've been sleeping well. Changing dens is always quite a trip." She smiled knowingly at Ashflight, with a curious twinkle in her eyes.
