when life gives you trouble, ignore it [C]

Deerleap sat at the entrance of camp waiting for her apprentice to come to her. around her, Dark Forest cats milled about, with one actually assigned to be with their patrol. she pointily ignored all of the dead cat's attempts at mocking her, instead starring with far too much focus on the apprentice den. hopefully, Wernpaw wouldn't take too long.

Wrenpaw was ecstatic. The fawn-furred she-cat stepped out of the apprentice’s den. She ignored the Dark Forest cats around camp, and made a beeline to Deerleap. Wrenpaw walked faster than normal. This was due to a mixture of nerves and excitement.

Soon enough, Wrenpaw was next to her mentor. ”Hello,” The apprentice greeted Deerleap. Her dark amber eyes gazed at the warrior.

"hello, Wrenpaw! Let's head to the Pine Grove now! The Pine Grove is the part of the territory with the most prey, to make it easier for you!" Deerleap said simply, getting to her paws and heading out of camp. as they entered the grove, she waved her tail to signal a stop. "alright, get down into a crouch and we'll see what we can do from there!" she purred, remembering her own training sessions with Swiftheart.

Wrenpaw stopped at Deerleap’s gesture, taking a moment to glance around at the pine grove. The new sights and smells were fascinating, and slightly overwhelming. She then followed Deerleap’s instructions and dropped down into a crouch. It wasn’t perfect, however the she-cat was just learning and didn’t know any better.

Deerleap smiled as Wrenpaw got into a crouch. she took a few moments to observe how her apprentice stood, before moving forward to nose the she-cat's hindlegs a bit more in. "Your strength comes from your hindlegs, so keep them in to give the best push. your forepaws should be tuck underneath you, though not too much to be able to move. Also, while it may seem better to wave your tail to keep balance, prey will detect it and run away, so try to keep your tail still," She advised, trying to remember everything she ever knew about hunting crouches.

"After you've tried that, you can try scenting the air for prey," she added.
