She just wanted to make every cat happy.

They had all suffered so much during Asylum's reign. She had lost siblings, friends, even her own mother. And everyone else had lost, too. She just wanted the pain to stop. She thought she was helping her Clan.

Why had StarClan chosen her?

She had messed everything up. Cats got hurt because of her. She couldn't do anything to help her Clan. The only good thing she did was retire. Daystar was ten times the leader she had been.

At least she had Amberfluff.

Until she didn't. Amberfluff hadn't come home.

For seasons after, Lilacsong waited for her mate to return. She watched as life moved on. As her Clan moved on. She watched as her kits grew up, some having kits of their own. She wasn't needed anymore.

Lilacsong couldn't wait anymore. She was tired. She couldn't bring herself to eat, couldn't bring herself to drink, she didn't even want to move. The leader was becoming a mere shell of her former self, and she was ashamed. She didn't want any cats to see her like this. So she turned them all away.

In the end, the former leader died in her sleep, curled up in a corner of the den, the tears she had cried before finally finding rest crusting her eyes.

At least she could finally be at ease.
