Looking back on it all (closed)

Goldenfang found Silverlight resting in camp after taking Dreampaw out for training. She was a bit nervous, though she put it down to wondering if she’d forgotten to organize a dusk patrol or night guard shift. They’d be back before all that, anyway. Hopefully. “Silverlight, care to have a walk through the territory with me?” The deputy didn’t expand on why. She wasn’t entirely sure why. She could use a friend after the disaster that was the loss of Sunnkyskip and Ryesnap and Sunpaw so close together, and the tom seemed like a good listener.

Training an apprentice was no easy task, as expected. Silverlight was determined to handle it as well as he could. Daystar was his inspiration for how he was trying to teach Dreampaw. She'd always been so informative and supportive when he'd been under her mentorship. He owed a lot of his skills to her teachings. She also taught him to use all he'd learned from her and improve upon those skills by himself so he could stand out. It's one of the biggest reason as to why he was one of the best hunters in the clan. That and constant practice of course.

After he and his apprentice had returned back to camp, the warrior wanted to do nothing but rest for a while. He'd have to complete his other duties soon but it was best if he took a bit of time to regain his energy. That's what he was doing the moment he saw a familiar figure approaching him. His eyes lit up as he slowly sat up from his resting position to properly greet Goldenfang. He hadn't had much time to talk with her recently so he was more than eager to accept her invitation. "Goldenfang! I'd be happy to join you! Haven't had much time to take a stroll. This should get me awake and relaxed enough for my other chores."

Silverlight took a moment to stretch his limbs before addressing the she-cat with a lighthearted purr, "Lead the way then, fearless deputy." The tom smiled softly at his close friend as he awaited her to lead them out of the camp.

She tossed her head and rolled her eyes as though she were exasperated by his teasing, but it was plain on Goldenfang’s smiling face that she appreciated his agreeableness. “Let’s go then, my loyal warrior.” She purred back, starting out of the camp at an easy trot with her tail held high. She was looking forward to their outing. Where would they go? What would they do? The deputy hadn’t really planned anything, but she liked it that way. Planning was her job, anyway. This would be a fun little break from the usual organizing she did.

The weather was mild, if a bit chilly. The clouds above were fluffy and white. No sign of rain while they were out, then, which was a bonus. Windy as always; it would be alarming if there wasn’t any wind on the moors. Goldenfang decided she wanted to see the territory while the sun touched it. The elders and older warriors warned her about the nonstop rain and the snow that would cover the ground in leafbare. “Bet you can’t beat me to the Lone Stump! I’ll be waiting for you, Silverlight!” Goldenfang called over her shoulder as she picked up speed.

She was a streak of gold among the greens and browns of the moors, running so silently she could startle even the most vigilant of prey. But she wasn’t aiming for prey, she was aiming for victory, and the cold air in her lungs felt like she had lightning in her chest.

The gray-furred warrior grinned as she returned his teasing. He was glad to see her like this again. Being deputy was no easy task and it was much more tiring than being a normal warrior. She deserved some relaxation once in a while.

The silence as they walked was comfortable. The serenity that he felt at that moment was more than enough to soothe his tired soul. He missed going on strolls like this. He should plan some in the future. Perhaps he could even bring his apprentice. He wanted to get to know the younger tom more. As a mentor, he wanted only the best for Dreampaw.

His thoughts scattered away at the sound of his companion's voice. Huh? He barely had enough time to understand what Golden had even said before she was off. "A-Ah! Hold on a second there!" he called as he pushed his paws to hurry after her. He doubted he'd win this impromptu competition of theirs but he'll sure try his hardest.
"Ack! You caught me so off guard!" he said with an exasperated huff as he arrived to the designated place, pout very visible on his face. It had been a close race but as he'd predicted, he had started a bit too late to be able to properly catch up with Goldenfang. "Good race though. You're clearly much speedier... and a bit of a trickster. I'll get ya one of these days!" he said as he puffed out his chest with a bit of exaggeration.

He relaxed again as his eyes scanned the rest of the territory. He let out a soft sigh and without turning to see his friend he whispered, "It's real nice out here right now. Makes me... remember. Whether I'd like to or not."

She leapt up on top of the stump, grinning down and Silverlight as he caught up before taking a seat and then laying down completely. She was huffing and puffing, trying to catch her breath after giving it all she had, but still laughing when she could manage it. “Oh, a trickster, huh? I like the sound of that. ‘Goldenfang the Cunning!’ Sounds like a great story.”

She watched Silverlight as he surveyed the territory from their vantage point. He expression softened and her breathing returned to normal. “Remember? What do you remember?” Goldenfang asked, a little bit worried. Of course there was a lot he’d been going through… probably. It had been a whirlwind of a season for the whole Clan. Her ear twitched as she considered how Lilacsong’s sudden retirement and Fawnstep’s brutal death must have affected him.
