[Set in the nursery. Open to any ShadowClan kits.]

Gingerkit flipped her tail through the air, absently trying to whisk away the snowflakes of dust that glowed in the sunlit haze. Being one of the youngest kits in the nursery was rough! It seemed as if all the older cats had friends to play with and things to do that didn't involve her. But I won't let that get me down! A determined smile stayed steady on the tiny maw. This dust is loads of fun anyhow. Back and forth, back and forth. The tail went slower and slower and slower until...

Gingerkit rolled over with a sigh. Who was she kidding? I'm bored out of my mind! The kit sat up, shaking off her curly pelt with a few efficient wriggles, and scanned the nursery for potential playmates. There's got to be somebody around here that knows how to have fun!

Suddenly a bright idea illuminated her oaky eyes. "If they won't come to me..." she muttered to herself, "Then I'll just have to bring the fun to them!" Locking eyes onto another kit only a few fox-lengths away, she gave a little hop and slapped her bushy tail over her mouth to contain any stray giggles. The fluffy rump lowered into a wobbly hunter's crouch and the mischievous kitten crept forward on cautious paws. Whiskers brushed the dust as she stopped only a few tail-lengths behind her denmate, eyes locked onto their serpentine tail. Gingerkit bunched her muscles, heartbeats away from pouncing, and yowled, "Snaaake!"

Murkystrike had just reached the entrance to the nursery when the shrill yowl from inside caught her attention. A snake? Dropping the prey she was carrying for the queens, she pushed her way into the nursery, heart racing at the thought of a snake in the nursery. Had any of the kits or queens been bit? Was it venomous? The thought made her sick to her stomach. As her wide eyes searched for the snake, she realized with a hollow sense of panic that she couldn't see it anywhere. Oh stars. "Where did the snake go?" Her eyes darted from nest to nest, counting the kits and queens and feeling the slightest bit of relief when they all were accounted for.

Ratkit poked at the bits of white, pretty dust on the ground — “snow,” his mama had called it. It grazed the tiny pad of his paw and, oh! It was cold!

The young kit — barely a second moon old, now, though growing more active by the day — quickly glanced behind him. But his mama, a bit of a worried queen who would surely stop him, was sleeping deeply in the shelter of the nursery. He could hear her snores. (They were very loud. And woke him up a lot. But she was his mama, so he loved her anyway.)

He had vague memories of being in out here, in “camp,” and of lots of loud, excited voices and so many scents! But once the cold came, his mama had been very firm that he stay in the warmth of the nursery. The cats with the strange scents did visit him, sometimes, and he and his mama played a lot... But the snow was just so — white! And pretty! And it tickled when the wind carried it through the entrance and onto his nose!

Emboldened, the little black kit didn’t waste anymore time, leaping into the dusting of white on the ground before — and forever turning it brown and mushy. But that only made him more excited! It wasn’t long before he was padding around the area outside in little circles, lost in his own world.

That is, until he heard a yowl — and it sounded like Gingerkit?!

Spinning around with kit reflexes, he only managed a half-turn before he was bowled over by a bundle of ginger fur!
