Fallen; Forgotten

An old tunnel that she had heard the elders whispering about. Sunnyskip had searched for moons in her free time, finally finding the opening of the fabled tunnel. Supposedly, it led to the gorge, but they had troubles keeping it stable due to the wet earth that signaled they were nearing the raging waters. Surely there was a way, imagine how much that would help the clan! A source of water that would never freeze or dry up - WindClan relied heavily on the puddles that formed on the moors, but they never seemed to last long. It was with this thought that she had started her work on the tunnel, keeping another warrior on the lookout as she carefully dug and supported the tunnel walls. She was diligent in her work, putting all of her effort into making sure that the tunnel was as safe as possible. She never worked when it rained, and often found the previous day's work crumbled from the rain water seeping into the ground. Still, she never gave up. Nights of returning, pale yellow pelt streaked with mud and exhausted, collapsing into her nest and falling asleep instantly. Finally, she could hear the roaring water of the gorge through the dirt. Surely it was only a few more tail lengths. Despite her excitement to finish it, she continued meticulously, carefully, inch by inch. Finally, her paw pushed through to air, and as the dirt before her crumbled into the water below she let out a cry of delight. She had done it! Using her paws, she fortified the entrance, patting down the dirt and mud to make sure it stayed open. Now she could work her way back through the tunnel, fortifying it further to make it last. She called back to her companion, who chirped back their congratulations and excitement. She turned to head back towards him, but the mud caught at her paw. Her eyes widened as it gave way, sending her leg backwards towards the gorge. Seeing her predicament, her clanmate lunged forward, but his jaws snapped closed just over her neck fur as she fell, flailing into the raging waters below. Plunged into cold water, Sunnyskip couldn't help the gasp of shock that filled her lungs with water. For a heartbeat she surfaced, sputtering and trying to right herself, but in the next heartbeat she was under again, never to resurface. Her mission was complete, but at the cost of her life.
