Uncalled for Thunder [c]

Prickletail slunk through the underbrush at the edge of the Thunderpath, freezing whenever a monster went past. It was nighttime, an annoying time for a patrol. The sun had just sunk behind the trees, and he was reasonably hopeful that he’d be able to get a reasonable amount of sleep. He was making his way back to camp now, hurrying at the edge of the… hard black stone that the monsters ran on. Unfortunately, he hadn’t been able to eat since sun-rise that day, and his stomach was rumbling nearly as loud as the monsters. Maybe they were hungry too.

Since this was a border patrol, not a hunting patrol, he was free to eat, but hadn’t happened upon any prey yet, this close to the screeching monsters. Wait-there. A hare. He’d been trying to catch one for moons. Would this be his chance? Hardly daring to breathe, he crept closer… and closer… and it took off. Prickletail chased after it, claws just managing to scratch its flank. In the sudden pitch dark, he cannoned into something furry… the hare! The ThunderClan warrior sunk his claws into the prey’s sides… wait…

He was on ShadowClan territory, he suddenly realized. He’d chased the hare over the Thunderpath… and this wasn’t even the prey he’d been chasing, but… a ShadowClan cat? Had he just ambushed a ShadowClan cat on their territory?

Mistlepaw wasn't scared of shadows.

If she was, then how would she have made it this far into the territory, alone? Once her fear had been dealt with, she had discovered that walks were a nice way to properly see the territory. However, she had never planned on going this close to the Thunderpath. The roar of monsters filled the air, and she began to turn her paws back towards camp. No moth or butterfly in their right mind would go this close to something like that.

Her plans were rudely interrupted when hurried footsteps behind her alerted her of something wrong. She didn't have enough time to react before sharp claws caught her pelt, making her yelp in a mixture of pain, fear and surprise. So much for harmless shadows. Only it wasn't a shadow, but a Thunderclan cat. She'd heard about the clan on the other side other the Thunderpath, with their thick undergrowth and changing trees. No-one had told her they randomly attacked Shadowclanners. "I promise I'm not an evil shadow! I'm good, like Shadowclan!"

Mistlepaw tried to wriggle out of the tom's grip on her long pelt, but her efforts were fruitless. Instead, she turned around and swung a clumsy paw at his head, with no battle training to prepare her for what was happening.

Oop. An apprentice. Double oop. Prickletail hissed in frustration, digging his claws down her sides. Why couldn’t he just catch a hare? Why was this ShadowClan scum even here?!? Frustrated, he let out a snarl and shoved the apprentice’s head into the mud with a powerful blow from both paws. He was probably being too rough… but… it was nice to beat the fox-dung out of someone. Appledapple being a mouse-brain, those fox-dunged SkyClan cats… argh, why did life have to be so frustrating!?!

His temper not improved by his empty stomach and tired eyes, he unsheathed his claws, careful to keep them from digging too deep or striking the eyes.”Take that as a warning, ShadowClan scum,” he rumbled in a deep voice, hoping she wouldn’t recognize his mud-splattered pelt in the darkness. He didn’t want to start a war. With his superior weight, muscle, and battle training, he hoped to be able to keep her pinned for long enough for him to come up with a way to get out of this situation.

Prickle used Leap-And-Hold, dealing 7 damage and costing 15 stamina. Mistle is pinned for 1 turn.

Mistlepaw could barely breath. She was trapped under her opponent's weight, unable to move. Claws lashed out at her from what felt like every direction.

She tried to wriggle around to lie on her back, because maybe then she could get a look at the tom's face. It probably wouldn't help her break free, but then she could look at his face and try and work out why he attacked her. Mistlepaw found other cats interesting. Even now, when she was being attacked, she wanted to know why. Cats different to her were fun to watch, and it seemed that many cats were different from her.

Surprisingly, she managed to successful wriggle around, only to realise fractionally too late that she had exposed her soft belly fur. She didn't need fighting experience to know that that was where lots of important stuff was, and it wouldn't be good to get it slashed open. In a panic, she kicked her hind legs out. To her amazement, her last-minute break for freedom caught the other cat off-guard, giving her enough time to slip away.

She was definitely bleeding. It would definitely be best to run away now, but Mistlepaw was intrigued. Calmly as she could, she said "I already asked, why are you attacking me?" Her voice still had a nervous edge to it, but she was in pain, and there was only so much she could to control that.

Mistlepaw attempted to use Duck and Twist. Attempt was successful!

Prickletail gave a hiss of surprise as the little vixen seemingly disappeared from underneath his paws. Her voice floated into his ears from out of the darkness- definitely a new fighter. She’d betrayed her position- she’d regret it. Without replying, he launched himself towards her distinctive voice, claws sheathed. The tabby tom slammed his target into the ground with brute force, adrenaline flowing through him. Don’t say a word… and then she won’t be able to point me out. He didn’t claw her- that was a sure way to get into trouble- just pound her with enormous paws. When he thought she’d learned her lesson, he took a step back, ready to flee back to the Thunderpath.

Mistlepaw didn't have time to be annoyed that her question was once again denied an answer. The Thunderclanner attacked again, using her inexperience to his advantage. She had lost all strength she had left to strike out, and instead just stayed where she was. It wasn't a trick this time. It was for real. Luckily (but could you really call any cat in this situation lucky), the tom disappeared almost as quickly as he'd appeared, leaving one small apprentice completely alone. She shouldn't have been out by herself in the first place. If she waited here long enough, maybe she would be strong enough to get herself back to camp. For now, she rolled onto her back and watched the stars. Waiting.
