Dawnfeather was pleased she’d been able to go on patrol with Dandelionpaw. Although they were friends (ooh, what a wonderful word with an equally wonderful meaning) they hadn’t been able to hang out much, what with Dawnfeather’s entry to warriorhood and all. As they padded through the trees, a cool breeze ruffled their fur. Dawnfeather purred happily and glanced up at the leaves above her head. She was on the ground, yes, she’d found a surprising number of cats preferred to stay on the ground. “They tell me the leaves change color and fall! I’ve never seen that before… it sounds pretty, but in a slow, sad, aging way, a swan’s song, as they say. W-“ She paused as a skittering noise from above caught her attention. “I’ll go after that squirrel,” she murmured. ”It sounds like there’s something that way, if you want to try it.”

She leapt into the trees, staying silent as a mouse (which was weird, since mice were actually kinda loud compared to, say, fish. Though she’d only watched fish from a distance). The scent of squirrel wafted towards her, and she climbed slowly towards it. Once she was close enough… ready… now! Dawnfeather surged forwards, catching the squirrel neatly in her teeth. Squirrels were very furry. She preferred feathers, herself. She glanced down to see how Dandelionpaw was doing, wandering closer to the border with each step…


Prickletail was on a patrol with Cherrypaw. Hmm. He didn’t actually know her as well as Pheasantpaw or Appledapple, but she seemed reasonably nice and was still an apprentice, so he’d be open to an amicable relationship with this sister. Appledapple… that sharp-clawed molly had the temper of a dog- eg she’d attack without warning, over things so slight that even he could perceive no offense. (Well. He probably could, but…) A rustling in the leaves not far off caught his attention. With a flick of his tail, he motioned he’d be heading that way, and stalked off through the leaves. The pungent scent of mouse hit his nose, and he dropped into a crouch. With a leap, he caught it, breaking its spine with his sharp teeth. His pounce had been excellent, and he puffed out his chest as he returned to where he’d left Cherrypaw, in sight of the Fallen Oak.


Dawnfeather attempted to catch a squirrel, catch was successful. Prickletail attempted to catch a mouse, catch was successful.

Dandelionpaw bounded after Dawnfeather, excitement in every step she took. She was delighted when she was sent on a patrol with her friend. She wasn't able to spend as much time as she wanted with her, now that she was a warrior. "I didn't know that the leaves changed colors!" she mewed, "I bet it's super pretty!" She listened to Dawnfeather telling her there was something nearby, and she padded over in the other direction. She scented a rabbit and tracked it down. Dandelionpaw had never tried to hunt a rabbit, but it couldn't be too hard. Could it? She crouched down and prepared to leap at the rabbit. When she felt the time was right, she leapt out of the ferns toward it. Her sudden appearance startled the rabbit, but it was too late for it to run. She landed on the rabbit and held it down long enough to deliver a killing bite. She trotted back over to where Dawnfeather had left her and waited for her to return.

Cherrypaw followed her brother deeper into the forest. She hadn't been able to spend a lot of time with her sibling, so she wasn't particularly close to him. She watched as Prickletail padded off and she scanned the area around her to find any prey. A flash of red feathers caught her eye, and she watched the bird hopping through the trees. Cherrypaw scooted up a tree like a squirrel and carefully balanced on one of the lower branches. She made her way through the tangle of branches until she was within pouncing distance and lowered herself into a crouch. She wasn’t super accustomed to hunting in trees, so she wasn’t exeactly sure how to go about hunting the pretty red bird.  She waited for the bird the get closer and pounced, but misjudged her leap. Instead of landing on the bird, she landed next to it. Mouse-dung, she thought, before a sudden flash of fear ran through her. She had lost her balance and was left dangling from the branch! Cherrypaw tried to scrambled back onto the branch, but was unsuccessful and cried out, “Help! I’m going to fall from this tree!” She desperately needed someone to help her!

Dawnfeather looked down from the lofty branches in amazement. “That’s amazing! I’ve never heard of anyone other than Hawkuncle catching a rabbit before!” Just then, a cry for help sounded through the wood. The young warrior immediately bounded off in that direction, not heeding scent marks or borders. Somecat needed help. She’d give it. There, a young apprentice dangling from a tree! Dawnfeather leapt to the low limb she was clinging to, and grabbed the apprentice’ scruff in her jaws, as gently as she could. With a grunt, she managed to pull her onto the limb. “Are you okay?” She anxiously asked.

Prickletail had been burying his mouse when a faint, muffled call for help hit his ears. Cherrypaw. With a snarl, he pelted through the underbrush, tracking his sister’s faint scent… there. That SkyClan rat from last time was threatening his sister. With a leap and a bound, he collided with the SkyClan molly, pinning her as she landed on her back on the ground with a grunt. His claws dug into her shoulders. She was on ThunderClan territory, a few fox-lengths over the border. And she had been threatening his sister.

One moment she was on the tree, the next moment she was on the ground, the breath knocked out of her lungs. Dawnfeather twisted, trying to throw this very aggressive tom off. She let out a pained yowl as his claws dug into her shoulders- ow ow ow ow!

Prickletail used Leap-And-Hold, dealing 7 damage, costing 15 stamina, and effective for one turn. Dawnfeather used Duck-And-Twist, attempt to escape was unsuccessful, dealing 3 damage and costing 5 stamina. Dawnfeather is pinned for one turn.

Dandelionpaw listened to Dawnfeather's praise, but a cry soon sounded and she couldn't reply. She quickly hid her rabbit in a patch of brambles and ran after Dawnfeather. A mottled tom clung to Dawnfeather's back! She ran at the tom, knocking him off her back. She let out a snarl and and fluffed up her pelt. No cat would hurt hurt her friend!

Cherrypaw felt a cat pulling her up by her scruff, and turned to see a SkyClan cat. She tried to thank the cat, but her brother appeared and knocked her off the branch. She was startled by this and peered down at forest's floor. She saw him pinning her, and she scrambled to get down from the tree. Once she got down, she saw a tabby circling her brother! She was conflicted on whether or not to attack her helper, but she was crossing the border. Cherrypaw leaped at the she-cat and swiped at her, trying not to hurt her too bad.

Dawnfeather was gasping for breath as the tom pushed her into the ground, unshed tears beginning to form in her eyes. She couldn’t breathe… she couldn’t breathe… the world began to spin… then, miraculously, the horrid weight vanished like smoke in the wind, and she could breathe again. Gasping for breath, she clambered to her paws, still shaking from the horrendous experience. He… that tom… was he trying to kill her? Out of nowhere, the young apprentice she’d saved attacked her. Dawnfeather reeled, trying to take in everything that was happening, her paws heavy as rocks… then she saw the tabby tom’s gaze flicker to Dandelionpaw. No. No. No.

“You are not hurting her,” she snarled, getting between them, her fur bristling. She never snarled. She was honestly kinda surprised she knew how to. But he was not hurting Dandelionpaw. Dawnfeather would die before he got his claws anywhere near her. With a shriek, she sprang forwards, raking her claws down his side, sinking them deep into flesh. It wasn’t something she enjoyed, even when she was as furious as she was now. But if that was what he needed to remind him to not go anywhere near Dandelionpaw, she’d do it.

Prickletail gave a hiss of frustration as some apprentice managed to knock him off this SkyClan rat’s side. She had been gasping for breath, true, but it wasn’t like he was going to kill her, even though she’d been threatening his sister. Cherrypaw lashed out, and he gave her a supportive nod. It seemed she was a nice sort of cat. The SkyClan rat seemed to be still recovering, so he locked his gaze onto the apprentice, fluffing out his fur and snarling. Then the SkyClan rat snarled some stuff. Somehow, he still wasn’t prepared for the way her claws sunk into his shoulder, scoring a deep, bloody mark. He gave a cry of pain and kicked her off, swiftly leaping onto the SkyClan apprentice. The warrior seemed to care about her, so he’d better go for the weak link.

The cloying, thick scent of blood hung in the air as Dawnfeather stumbled back. No…no… he’d started attacking Dandelionpaw… she scrunched her eyes shut and shook her head violently, trying to focus. “I’m coming!” She yowled as she hurried forward, disregarding the disgraceful ThunderClan apprentice behind her. No… he wouldn’t hurt her. She’d make sure of that…

Dawnfeather used Front Paw Strike, dealing 8 damage and costing 7 stamina. Prickletail used Front Paw Strike, dealing 7 damage and costing 7 stamina.

Dandelionpaw heard Dawnfeather's shriek as she rushed at the tom and raked her claws across his side. Dandelionpaw didn't have time to react before she felt the sharp pain of claws ripping her flesh. She out a small yowl of surprise and faced the mottled tom. She heard Dawnfeather's meow and Dandelionpaw leapt at the ThunderClan cat. She dug her teeth into his side and tried to keep her grip.

Cherrypaw watched as the she-cat ran at Prickletail and scored her claws down his side. She knew she should help him, but didn't want to ruin any her chances of befriending the she-cat. SkyClan territory has a lot of birds of pretty birds that I could collect feathers from... While she was drifting off, her brother attacked the tabby apprentice. Cherrypaw snapped back to attention and reluctantly ran over to the SkyClan she-cat. She batted at the she-cat, with her claws sheathed, and tried to see if she could distract her.

Dawnfeather winced at Dandelionpaw’s cry as though she was the one with claws raking down her sides. The ThunderClan apprentice swatted half-heartedly at her, and Dawnfeather reluctantly focused on her. “I don’t want to fight, and neither do you. Your sheathed claws betray your merciful heart.” Without waiting for a response, she leapt away from the apprentice, sinking her teeth into the tom’s tail and pulling hard. He sank to the ground with a pained grunt, and she bounded over him, skidding to a stop next to Dandelionpaw.

“Come on let’s go let’s go!” She mewed hurriedly, glancing about at the surrounding territory in worry. Although she wasn’t bleeding badly, she was deeply concerned about Dandelionpaw, who’d taken a direct hit from that merciless cat. A ThunderClan patrol might come out of nowhere… this was the last time she ever saved a ThunderClan cat… no, she would, even if it had consequences. As long as the consequences were only for her.

Prickletail let out a gasp at a searing pain in his tail. With an offended look (that was an underpawed apprentice trick) he collapsed for a moment, pain shooting through his tail. How dare she! At least she seemed to be trying to run… although as soon as he got his paws under him he’d thrash her until she learned her lesson… he began to clamber back to his paws, furious.

Dawnfeather used Tail Yank, dealing 4 damage and costing 15 stamina. Prickletail is stunned for one turn.

IC: Dandelionpaw released her grip and took a few steps back as Dawnfeather pulled the tom's tail. She gagged a little at the taste of blood in mouth. She hated having to hurt other cats unless it was absolutely necessary. Dawnfeather bounded up to her and told her that she should go. Giving her a small nod, Dandelionpaw ran after Dawnfeather and stopped by the bramble patch to get her rabbit. It was big enough to feed a few cats, so she didn't want to waste it.

Cherrypaw listened to the SkyClan she-cat's words and stepped back a little. She was grateful that the she-cat somewhat forgave her. After the she-cat and apprentice appeared to be running away, she ran up to her brother. She helped him get to his feet, and felt guilty for him having to take all the blows. "Are you okay?" She mewed with concern. He had a deep scratch on his shoulder and a bite wound on his side.

IC: Dawnfeather gave the smaller molly a small smile as she stopped to collect the rabbit. “That’s really thoughtful of you, Dandelionpaw. Let me take that- you’ve got blood all over you! Come on, we’d better get to Beechaunt. It could get infected, and I don’t know where to find herbs around here.” She felt panic bubble up in her throat like thin, foul-tasting slime as she picked up the rabbit. Dandelionpaw had blood all over her, and it wasn’t all the ThunderClan tom’s. “Weff beffer sffer clearf of FunderFan,” she mumbled through the thick pelt of the rabbit. An anxious flick of her tail, and they headed back to SkyClan camp.

Prickletail’s world was still spinning. If Cherrypaw hadn’t been there to support him he likely would’ve face-planted, which wouldn’t have been very dignified. “I’m good…” he grunted, licking at the wound with a grimace. “The blood isn’t all mine, you know. Just a bit winded from that SkyClan rat. We’d better get back to camp with what we’ve caught.” A few unsteady steps… it seemed he could walk fine, now that the world had stopped spinning. Stars, she had strong teeth.
