Proving Yourself

Sunnyskip led the way towards the flower field, occasionally glancing back to where her apprentice followed. They had been sent out to take care of a weasel that was lurking among the flowers, and Sunnyskip felt herself becoming excited. "When I first became an apprentice, I encountered a weasel here. It ran off after giving me a nasty wound, I wonder if it's the same one." She mused out loud with a smile. "This could also be your last assignment as an apprentice." She purred as they padded up to the tall flowers, taking a moment to breath in the sweet scent of each flower melding together. When her eyes opened, they had hardened a bit. "Alright, let's split up. Yowl if you find it, and I'll do the same. Don't go too far though, okay?" She mewed, giving her apprentice a nod as she lifted a paw to step into the field.

Timberpaw followed his mentor to the flower field, head hanging low. He felt troubled by the thought of confronting his sister, even if it actually was the right thing to do. The flowers were pretty. He liked flowers. At least flowers couldn't make him cry. Timberpaw raised his head to listen to his mentor, nodding. He wanted a better fight, the fight with the eag... Henpaw... tooth ...Eagle felt unexperienced he was clumsy... with my words... with his attacks, maybe something smaller could help him get used to it. He nodded. Splitting up seemed good. He watched his mentor walk away and he turned to stare at a small yellow flower. Happy yellow flower. He shut his eyes and turned away, walking into the flower field, after a few steps he opened them, he needed to stay focused. He couldn't be stuck on- a brown shape wiggled in-between the flowers, distracting him from his thoughts. He narrowed his eyes, definitely a weasel. He tried to stay out of it's sight as he yowled to his mentor. "Weasel!" As soon as he spoke, the weasel lifted its head quickly, lowering itself as it prepared to attack. Timberpaw blinked down at it cautiously, he didn't want to start anything before his mentor got there.

Sunnyskip's ears perked as she heard Timberpaw's call, and she pushed her way through the flower stems until she finally reached him. As the weasel darted forward towards her apprentice, she pushed through the last of the flowers and lashed out with a paw, throwing the weasel off of it's course. It quickly recuperated, spinning to latch itself onto her foreleg. Hissing in pain, Sunnyskip bit down on the weasel's tail, trying and failing to get it to let go. Releasing her bite, she looked to Timberpaw. "You got this," She reassured, turning so the weasel was towards him, still latched onto her leg. The fur along her spine rose as the sharp teeth dug further into her fur.

Sunnyskip used Swift Strike, dealing 5 damage for 10 SP. She paired it with Snap, dealing 10 damage for 7 SP. Weasel retaliated with Gripping Bite, dealing 7 damage for 15 SP.

Timberpaw hissed at the weasel, backing away, glancing up every once and awhile to check how close his mentor was. He raised a claw, flattening his ears, preparing for the weasel to strike. The pelt of his mentor flew by, the she-cat quickly pushing it back. He watched at how quickly it recovered, this thing was terrifying.

Not wanting to try anything too difficult, Timberpaw ran over to the weasel and scratched it across it's body, his claws running into it's fur, digging into the slightly smaller animal's back. The weasel let go and tried to get away, moving slowly and losing a lot of blood. He looked up at his mentor, waiting for orders on what to do next.

Timberpaw used Front Paw Strike, dealing -6 HP (Weasel) and -7 SP (Timberpaw). Weasel is KO'd!

Timerpaw darted forward, claws slashing through the weasel's pelt as Sunnyskip felt it's grip on her leg loosen before it finally let go, staggering away before dropping into a motionless heap. She felt eyes on her, and turned back to look at her apprentice with a smile. "Well done, Timberpaw. I'm really proud of you, that was perfect. I believe you're ready to become a warrior." She purred, nuzzling his head gently with her nose. When she pulled away, she winced as she put weight on the injured leg, sitting back to inspect it. The wound wasn't deep, but it did take up a lot of space on her leg... She would go see Hentooth for some cobwebs later. She set her paw back on the ground and looked back to Timberpaw. "Come on, let's report back to Daystar, she'll be pleased to hear about our success, and your progress." She smiled, winking at the tom as she got back to her paws and set off towards camp, the slight limp accompanying each step not enough to dampen the grin on her face and the sparkle in her eyes as she looked forward to reporting Timberpaw's readiness.
