Fogkit’s Apprentice Ceremony

Goldenfang climbed the Tallrock for the first time, feeling a rush of thrill flutter in her chest. This view was certainly exciting. She could see the whole camp and plenty of the moor beyond from its top, and she savored the wind in her fur before taking a deep breath and letting out her first summons. “All cats old enough to run on the moors gather here for a Clan meeting!” The new deputy was sure that was generally how it went. Either way, the message got across, and she peered down at the faces of WindClan in search of the lucky kit.

Henpaw’s head shot up the moment she heard the familiar call. She leapt to her paws, stepping on her own tail in consternation before she realized she did, in fact, know that voice. Goldenfang. It wasn’t anything urgent, or Daystar would call the Clan, and it wasn’t some unfamiliar cat with dire tidings. Just an apprentice ceremony. That was all. Henpaw poked her head out of the medicine cat den, glancing up at the Tallrock. Right. An apprentice ceremony. She idly wondered who it was for. Part of her would like to have an apprentice, but she was already starting to take a dislike to younger cats- not a major one, she just couldn’t stand the whining.

Thrushflight had been sleeping in the sun, savoring the breeze. The summons had woken her, and she was curious as to what was happening. This would be Goldenfang’s first ceremony. And some lucky kit was being apprenticed, perhaps even the one she’d interacted with in camp a while ago… Fogkit. She laid her head on her paw and watched from half-lidded eyes.

Henpaw decided to pad over and sit in the back of the crowd, although there truly was no use in her doing so- she wasn’t about to get an apprentice or be made a warrior. Still… she did like ceremonies… oh, and she could nitpick Goldenfang’s performance. This should be fun. Already Henpaw was fairly certain she’d substituted one word for another or something. (Yes, yes, Goldenfang’s doing her best blah blah blah Ashfall would’ve made a better deputy) but she would support the golden molly if it came down to it. If it came down to it.

Fogkit smoothened out her fur quickly before bounding towards the crowd of cats gathered beneath the Tallrock. She squeezed herself through the cats towards the front of the group. Her tail was high and her chest puffed out. Even though she was nervous, Fogkit couldn’t let everyone else see that! She felt some cats eyes on her, but she shook them off. Her eyes shifted up to the new deputy ready to become an apperentice.

“Fogkit, step forward!” She grinned, calling out the lucky kit when the Clan had settled in and went relatively quiet. “You’ve reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you’ve earned your warrior name, you will be called Fogpaw. Your mentor will be Amberfluff. Observant, measured, grounded—these are just a few of the qualities that make her a prized warrior of WindClan. I trust she will teach you well.” Goldenfang meowed, dipping her head respectfully to the older warrior. Every word she spoke was genuine. She found herself admiring Amberfluff’s cool, levelheaded demeanor on several occasions.

Fogpaw was grinning widely and her tail twitched with excitement. She strode over to her mentor, trying not to looked to excited, and touched noses with Amberfluff. Though she seemed older Fogpaw could tell she’d be a good mentor, by the way Goldenfang talked about Amberfluff anyways. She gave her slight smile.
