Pigeonkit's Apprentice Ceremony

It had been earlier that day that Bloodstrike had performed Olivepaw's ceremony. Why not get another ceremony done before the day ended? Scrambling up the tree (Stars, the bark was looking rough by now) Bloodstrike pulled himself up onto Tallbranch once more.

"Let all cats old enough to climb a tree gather beneath the Tallbranch for a clan meeting!" The clan began to trickle in, some throwing freshkill onto the pile before they came over. The apprentice den was about to get one more body in it tonight. Skyclan was doing well.

Pigeonkit was laying in the shadow of the nursery, head on his paws, eyes half-lidded as the sun warmed his fur. Bloodstrike's call bid the kit to open his eyes, curiously gazing at the deputy above on the Tallbranch. His sister had been made an apprentice this morning, and the tom had been wondering if perhaps he would be next. Tail flicking, he lifted his head, yawning squeakily before rising to all fours and padding closer. Even if this wasn't his own ceremony, if it was for one of his siblings, he wanted to be there.

Once everyone had gathered, Bloodstrike began to speak. "Another apprentice is to be named today. Pigeonkit, step forward. You have reached the age of six moons and it is time for you to become an apprentice. From today until the day you earn your warrior name, you will be called Pigeonpaw. Mountainheart will be your mentor." His eyes went to his giant, bob-tailed daughter and gave her an encouraging nod. He hoped that the two of them might get along well and find some common ground. One wasn't of Skyclan blood at all, while the other was half Skyclan but lived as a Riverclan cat for most of her life. Maybe they would bond.

"Get to know eachother. That concludes this clan meeting."

The former rogue knew nothing of the social intricacies of SkyClan. Mountainheart’s past as a RiverClan cat was unknown to Sapphire, but even if she had heard of it by chance, she lacked the discernment to worry about Pigeonpaw’s quality of education. Any SkyClan warrior was a fine choice in her mind, and she cheered joyously with the rest of the Clan as her son was renamed and his mentor picked out. She was anxious to see the rest of his siblings begin their training—not because she wanted them out of her fur (though this did play a part), but because she was eager for the chances her kits would have to become strong and capable cats. Her chest rumbled with pride and love.

Mountainheart looked up from the cool snail she was intensely studying at the sound of her name. Why did Bloodstrike- OH! An apprentice?? She shot to her feet, grinning like a madwoman. Bloodstrike trusted her with an apprentice! What was his name? In all the excitement, she didn't quite pick up on it. But that didn't matter, she could find out later! For now, her priority was bounding over to the young tom and pressing her nose against his. "Hello! My name is Mountainheart. We're gonna have so much fun!"
